You are an experienced Tug Master looking to leverage your proven skills and knowledge of coastal BC waters in a challenging and rewarding marine environment. As a key member of our team, we will rethink construction together, from idea to completion. Everywhere. All the time. Period.
The A/B Jetty is a nearly $250 million-dollar project in Esquimalt on Vancouver Island. The first phase of the project is set to take 4 years with the opportunity to grow to a period of up to 8 years. It involves the reconstruction of existing capital infrastructure that includes two jetties with 278 foundation piles up to 250ft long and requiring roughly 30,000 cubic meters of concrete. Significant construction techniques and methods in a marine environment are required to tackle this project. This could be your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
What YOU Will Do
Operational control and knowledge of tugboat in all aspects of towing barges and ship assists;
Interact closely with crew and management and manages the day-to-day operation of vessel and crew;
Communicate with shore-based team to promote efficiency and safety in the entire operation;
May perform other duties including operating heavy machinery as required.
What YOU Will Bring
***Must have current Reliability government clearance;
2-5 years' sea service towing barges on the BC Coast;
Must have a minimum 60 GT Domestic Certificate of Competency and preferably a 150 GT Domestic Certificate of Competency;
Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate;
Knowledge of tides, waters, coastlines, marine hazards and the weather, and knowledge of how these factors impact on each voyage;
Knowledge of relevant Port Authority operations procedures and regulations and demonstrated competence in Collision Regulations (Canada Shipping Act 2001);
Must have experience navigating and operating tugs;
Knowledge, familiarity and demonstrated skill in maintaining vessel machinery and navigation electronics;
Must be familiar with towing tandem barges in tight quarters under couplers and tandem towing on deep sea gear;
Strong communication, supervisory, interpersonal and leadership skills;
Excellent tug/barge safety record and demonstrated boat handling skills.
