Reporting into the Director, Quality Development, the Self Care Quality Development Manager serves as technical/subject matter expert for compliance and quality of our Self Care products. This role is actively involved in the stages/gates of development for formulas and packages, advising on building quality into the product and designing for manufacturability, as well as testing needed in development to ensure product efficacy and safety. This role also works to resolve quality issues encountered from development through production and end use of the product, and to improve self care product quality, globally. Works closely with quality development testing and compliance teams and cross functionally across the entire product team to ensure our products meet industry standards and best practices. This role will also provide support in all areas across the product life cycle including but not limited to batch record review, product release, validation support, change control, training, voice of customer reviews, root cause analysis, supplier quality performance and inspection readiness.
Responsible for ensuring our Self Care products set the standard for the highest quality products in the athletic self care market. The vision of the role is to proactively pursue quality during the product conception and development phases by proactively working with product development to build the best quality up front, and to advise on designing products for repeatability and reproducibility in manufacturing. This role also advises on actions to be taken relative to feedback from educators and guests around the world to ensure continuous product and process improvement.
Develops training materials and recommendations that promote awareness and understanding of lululemon quality requirements, standards, policies, SOPs, and work instruction procedures and processes
Champions new approaches to continually improve and streamline processes to meet business and compliance requirements including development and incorporation of best practices
Performs, leads, and advises on root cause analysis for product quality issues and works issue through containment phase of corrective action process
Proactively identifies and implements processes, policies or procedures to continuously improve the product and compliance quality, while also collaborating with contract manufacturers and suppliers, along with various internal departments (including Product Development, Sourcing, Whitespace, Vancouver LLO
Partner with leadership in various departments to request input to aid in feedback investigation, root cause identification, and implementation of actions to respond to both immediate issue resolution and longer-term systemic resolution and prevention of recurrence
Develop and recommend solutions to prevent future occurrences. Recommend policy and procedure changes as necessary. Follow up to verify that changes in the systems are implemented, and monitors the systems over time to verify effectiveness. Work closely with LLO, VOG team, and DC auditors to manage quality conversations and provide feedback to manufacturing partners to elevate quality
Must remain knowledgeable about significant global regulatory changes that could impact Lululemon products. Assists with the implementation and monitoring of related systems, policies, and procedures
Works to ensure proper compliance quality management systems are maintained and that the global Quality standards are met and consistently followed. This support includes conducting internal system audits of Lululemon manufacturing and distribution centers. Provides support for audits of lululemon by external agencies (FDA, TDH, Health Canada, etc.)
Manages additional special projects related to these objectives as required
Required Skills, Experience, and Academic/Educational Requirements:
5+ years experience or a Master’s degree with minimum 3 years experience or a Ph.D. with minimum of 2 years experience in processing or packaging operations, quality assurance, or quality control in the cosmetics industry.
Certification by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) is strongly preferred.
5+ years experience in advanced quality principles, of audit protocol, inspection procedures and FDA and cGMP regulations. Must be familiar with compliance requirements for over the counter (OTC) products. A knowledge and understanding of multiple manufacturing processes/formulations, international requirements and bilingual skills are beneficial
2+ years experience applying advanced principles, theories, and concepts and contribute to the development of new principles, systems and concepts
Must be a critical thinker and active listener with good time management ability to provide solutions and define deliverables to a wide range of difficult and complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Solutions should be imaginative, thorough, and practicable.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills in order to interact with various levels of personnel from different cultures both within and outside the company
Must have the ability to perform duties under very general direction and independently perform assignments with only general criteria for expected results. Must have excellent project management skills in order to perform and prioritize a wide variety of activities simultaneously.
