Regional Environmental Health & Safety Manager (Full-time)

Reporting directly to the Senior Health and Safety Manager, the Regional Health and Safety Manager is responsible for providing support, coaching, and mentorship to staff at all levels of the organization. By fostering and encouraging a strong safety culture, the Regional Health and Safety Manager will be instrumental in the improvement of Bureau Veritas’s health and safety performance. The EHS Manager will work to develop and implement strategies to reduce the frequency and severity of workplace incidents.

As a Regional Environmental Health & Safety Manager, your main responsibilities are to:

Corporate Responsibilities

Promote and foster the development of a world-class safety culture.
Promote and maintain a positive work environment for all employees.
Participate in annual document reviews with the intent to improve upon existing corporate documentation such as safe work procedures and work instructions.
Work with other regional EHS Manager to establish corporate EHS policies and procedures.
Track and maintain EHS statistics, including the publishing of such data for internal or external stakeholders.
Act as a positive change agent in supporting Bureau Veritas’s EHS vision and new initiatives (operational & cultural).

Regional Responsibilities

Ensure safety documentation and materials are updated, reviewed regularly and are in agreement with applicable regulations and Bureau Veritas’s Corporate policies.
Advise the management team on changes or proposed changes to provincial, federal and state health and safety legislation and ensure compliance with these regulations.
Provide to management regular updates, reports and suggestions for improvement on operational EHS issues.
Advise management and supervisors on regulatory requirements for the control of hazards.
Provide leadership and guidance to Site Safety Coordinators and ensure they adhere to and implementing the HSE program at their location.
Regularly communicate to staff on health and safety issues through town halls, emails, safety bulletins and worksite observation tours.
Educate and train employees in the area of health and safety in the workplace.
Create buy-in from employees towards reporting of incidents and continually reinforce the near hit reporting message.
Lead investigations for recordable incidents.
Review incident reports and hazard reports to identify health and safety trends and system needs.
Development/continually improve Emergency Response Plans for all locations.
To perform or aid in the completion of internal safety audits and to prepare the organization for external safety audits. Follow up on audit findings.
Assist managers, supervisors and health and safety committees with inspections.
Participate in JHSC committee meetings and follow up on recommendations.
Work in coordination with Human Resources staff on the management of WCB claims and the Company Return to Work Program.
Maintain online HSE databases where required.
Work within budget allocation.
Perform annual internal EHS audits and assist with the development of action plans for the purpose of encouraging continuous improvement.
Act as an ambassador for Bureau Veritas through memberships with professional health and safety associations.
Assist sales staff by completing Pre-Qualification HSE Questionnaires.

You are the ideal Regional Environmental Health & Safety Manager, if you have:

Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a direct safety management role.
An Occupational Health and Safety certificate or equivalent.
Your safety designation (CRSP or equivalent) or are in the process of obtaining it.
Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities.
Strong presentation, oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of Workers Compensation and Return to Work programs.
Strong knowledge of provincial and federal safety regulations. Knowledge in US State and OSHA regulations is a strong asset.
Experience in developing, managing and auditing H&S management systems, including OHSAS 18001.
Excellent problem solving abilities.
A strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate (verbal and written) in French will be considered an asset
Comfortable with periodic travel that is required in this role.
