Program: Residential Services

Compensation: $18.15/hour + $0.50 shift premium between 12:00am-8:00am + EAP

Status: Casual (no guaranteed hours aside from initial training and mandatory shifts listed below). Additional hours pending opportunity)

Location: Kelowna, BC – New Gate

Shift Schedule: Training start date: Week of January 27th. Must be available for specific overnight shifts of 12am to 8am for Feb 3-7 & 10-14; Shifts offered thereafter may vary, but standard shifts include: 8:00am -4:00pm, 4:00pm-12:00am 12:00am-8:00am, etc. May include a combination of weekdays, weekends, daytime, evenings and stat holidays

Our mission is: “Safe, healthy and inclusive communities in the Okanagan & Kootenay region and that we are the trusted voice on social and criminal justice issues in our region.” Guided by evidence informed practices, a harm reduction lens, and a person-centered approach, we are able to support people from assorted circumstances and needs including, but not limited to, homelessness, mental illness, addiction and developmental disabilities.

Position Overview

Assists clients to live successfully in a residential setting through which a harm reduction approach is utilized, as it is our focus to keep people safe, minimize death, disease and injury associated with higher risk behaviour. Ensures that client’s physical, emotional, social, educational, and medical needs are met. Assists clients to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life-skills.

Major Responsibilities

  • Complete duties in accordance with organizational and/or program policies, as well as the mission, ethics, values and constitution of the Society.
  • Recognize, analyze, and deal with potential emergency situations.
  • Administer medications to clients in accordance with established policy.
  • Assist with case management.
  • Provide emotional support and feedback to residents.
  • Perform residence maintenance and housekeeping on as needed basis.
  • Provide documentation as per program policy.

*Other duties within the scope of work as assigned by the Director


  • Education and Knowledge: Certificate in a related human / social service field.
  • Training and experience: One (1) year recent related experience.
  • Class 5 driver’s license – clean driver’s abstract and access to vehicle for use during work hours preferred but not mandatory for casuals.
  • Criminal Record Check (CRC) for working with Vulnerable Adults
  • Level 1 First Aid.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
