Your Opportunity:
We have an exciting position in our program for a Registered Nurse (RN). The Registered Nurse – Renal works to provide Hemodialysis treatment to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team. The RN delivers comprehensive patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal patients. The RN practices within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alberta Kidney Care - North Program (Alberta Kidney Care - North) to provide leadership, critical thinking, clinical judgment, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health, preventing illness, injury, and disability to the renal patient. The RN practices nursing care according to Hemodialysis Nursing Specialty Scope of Practice, regulating body, clinical policies, and nursing standards. The RN demonstrates a professional demeanor, pursues regular professional development opportunities, and maintains professional designation. The RN assumes unit leadership and charge responsibilities to support all levels of the multidisciplinary team as per Unit Manager Direction.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:
Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making abilities. Must be able to provide direction to other health care workers. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work independently and in conjunction with other team members. Demonstrate ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workload. Demonstrate initiative, accountability, interpersonal and communication skills. Successful candidate must be able to lift 40lbs (18kg). Please note: The Alberta Kidney Care - North program requires candidates to complete/pass Hemodialysis Training, in Edmonton or Red Deer, which consists of 4 weeks on unit training and 2 weeks buddy shifts (or equivalent hours). A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to buddy shifts which are assigned by the hiring manager. Must be able to attend Hemodialysis Training in Edmonton or Red Deer. Candidates with previous experience will be required to complete Hemodialysis Training as per Manager/Educators discretion. Upon successful completion of Orientation and buddy shifts, the candidate will be scheduled and required to attend a mandatory 2-day Post-Orientation in Edmonton or Red Deer within 3 to 4 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 1-2 years recent Med-Surgical Nursing experience preferred. Recent acute and chronic Hemodialysis preferred. Nephrology nursing experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of case management.
