Job Summary:
Ontario Tech University is seeking a Kinesiology Lab Technician for a limited term of approx. 10 months. The incumbent will support the Kinesiology Lab Specialist in the day to day operations of the teaching laboratories for the Kinesiology program, ensuring safe use and operations of the facilities and its equipment.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
support the day to day operations of three teaching laboratories
work with the Program Director, Kinesiology Lab Specialist and others to ensure the optimal current and future state of the laboratory equipment, addressing concerns and making recommendations as needed
oversee the health and safety component of the teaching laboratories, keeping up to date all relevant manuals and records, standard operating and other safety procedures
work with faculty to plan and delivery a quality experience of both the academic and technical components of the laboratory courses, as well as safe proper use of the facilities and equipment
train and supervise teaching assistants, students and work study students, creating a positive learning environment for all involved while ensuring proper protocols are followed and learning objectives are met
ensure proper set-up and take down for each laboratory course, including following proper sanitization procedures
be ready and available to assistant any users in the laboratories,
act as the first point of contact for faculty, teaching assistants, students and others for equipment and software issues, technical advice or consultation for research or varsity purposes
ensure all laboratory equipment is in working order, repairing, updating and calibrating as necessary

Required Skills
Excellent organizational skills and capable of adhering to a strict schedule.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially for technical components (e.g. SOPs)
Effective interpersonal skills, discretion, tact and diplomacy.
Capable of troubleshooting and problem solving or providing guidance under potentially stressful situations.
Ability to transfer appropriate knowledge, both theoretical and practical, to users in the teaching laboratories.

Education:
Masters of Science in Kinesiology or related degree of equivalent level required
Certification as a current CSEP-CEP (Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology – Certified Exercise Physiologist) preferred but not required
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First-Aid up-to-date - required

Required Experience
over 1 year and including 3 years of similar experience
overseeing and teaching in Kinesiology teaching laboratories
supervision and interaction with colleagues in a number of diverse roles
knowledge of safe and effective operations of facilities and equipment in Kinesiology programs
technical knowledge of various equipment and software systems used in Kinesiology teaching laboratories, including experience in maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing as needed
sound knowledge of acquisition and interpretation of physiological data from humans
knowledge of research design and the workings of high-output research labs
