As a Human Resources Advisor, you will work within both the academic and support staff agreements to help support initiatives within the faculties, departments and centres/institutes. Reporting to the Senior Officer, Human Resources, EHS & Administration, this position is part of a central team that is responsible for providing general human resource services, including workforce advice and consultation, recruitment and selection support, position description development for job evaluation, employee/labour relations, performance management, support to Faculty Evaluation Committee (FEC) and PREPD activities, assisting in the development and implementation of human resource programs and processes and providing general human resources support.


Provides advice/consultation and support to Chairs, Assistant Chairs, Administration, supervisors, faculty, and staff related to best practices in the work environment, referencing any pertinent collective agreement or legislation guidelines (NASA and AASUA)
Contributes to the development of policies and procedures that support the ongoing human resource needs of the Faculty of Arts
Consults, develops and administers recruitment for support staff and faculty vacancies; this is an active role from the pre-recruitment activity to the completion of the appointment and subsequent onboarding activities
Reviews and approves all department submitted faculty and support appointments in the Human Capital Management system (PeopleSoft)HCM
Reviews, updates, and distributes ATS Guidelines; where departments suggest changes, coordinates with Faculty & Staff Relations to ensure documentation is in compliance
Acts as the administrator and advisor for the NASA Annual Performance appraisal process
Participates in the administration of the PREPD process
Supports the FEC Administrator with Faculty evaluation and ATS evaluation (including material preparation, data collection, preparation and distribution of decision and outcome letters and other FEC logistics)
Assists with input of leave records, calculates leave balances and ensures accuracy of leave balances in PeopleSoft
Processes, monitors and reviews all overtime reporting to ensure that it adheres to the collective agreement
Troubleshoots and investigates overpayments and works with central partners to resolve
Resolves staff inquiries regarding payroll and benefits issues or refers staff to appropriate contacts
Analyzes trends related to calls/contacts from manager/staff and develops solutions that could be offered to the Faculty or a particular department, centre or institute
Develops reports and metrics for HR for data analysis and reporting
As required, conducts training in conjunction with the Senior Officer, Human Resources
Other duties as assigned

Minimum of a post-secondary Diploma in HR or related area; undergraduate degree preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
3-5 years of related Human Resources progressive experience in large, unionized work environments; areas of experience include but are not limited to: recruitment, job evaluation or workforce planning, employee relations, etc.
Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is preferred
Demonstrated experience in PeopleSoft (HCM) or similar HRIS
Demonstrated experience working within union/association agreements
Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
Strong interpersonal, consulting skills, demonstrated ability to build relationships
Adaptability in responding to emerging situations
Ability to work within ambiguity, flexible to our changing university landscape
Ability to demonstrate a service excellence philosophy
