The Finance Manager provides leadership and coordination of company financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting management functions for GARDENA Canada. This hands-on role which is part of local leadership team acts as a proactive business partner focused on ethical, compliant and efficient accounting practices in support of the business. Ensures company accounting procedures conform to Accounting manual and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Essential Duties:
Oversee and manage the daily operations of the local Accounting/Finance department. Manage and develop department staff, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and maintaining superior standards for accuracy and efficiency.

Drive the site to meet or exceed all financial metrics. Support day-to-day operations with recommendations and decision making.

Work closely with local leadership to ensure that all financial transactions and reporting are complete, accurate and timely. Maintain a controls environment that complies with all company and external agency requirements.

Lead the site’s annual budgeting process, including the identification of cost drivers. Coordinate with local leadership and corporate Finance team to develop operational objectives that are aligned with corporate strategic objectives.

Establish and implement short- and long-range department goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.

Oversees month-end and period-end closing, management reporting, forecast and budgeting analysis and other reporting to Corporate.

Oversees tracking and analyzing company, cost centre spending including but not limited to purchasing/procurement, and administrative spend.

Assists Country Officer with financial oversight of the Canadian financial results and analysis.

Performs ad-hoc financial analysis and supports special projects, as needed and assigned such as SKU portfolio management to support the business with profitable growth and Customer profitability

Working Capital optimization; inventory (SKU’s, slow movers, forecasting), receivables (past dues, terms in general), Payables (payment terms and PTP optimization)

Provide for adequate internal and quality control processes in order to assure integrity in the financial results and protection of the company’s assets.

Coordinate internal and external audit planning and execution and provide corporate personnel with financial information and supporting schedules as requested.

Responsible for statutory and regulatory reporting.

Responsible for security and maintenance of financial planning and analysis systems. Maintains and demonstrates professional competency according to company policies and procedures.

Identifies and implements improvements to business processes and procedures.

Qualifications (Education and Experience):
Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting

CPA designation

Minimum 10 years experience and 5 years supervisory experience

Experience working in consumer goods or related industry

Ideally experience with Microsoft Dynamics, however not a must

Skills and Capabilities (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
Effective leadership skills, including the ability to build and influence professional relationships throughout the organization.

Proven management-level skills in financial reporting, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting and inventory valuation, with a strong track record of accurate and timely financial reporting.

Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and practices, financial processes, reporting and internal controls

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including a demonstrated ability to link and interpret operational metrics to financial performance, communicate/present findings, and make recommendations.

Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks and work independently to meet reporting deadlines.

Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Strong computer skills, including proficient use of accounting systems, as well as MS Office software applications and ERP/MRP proficiency.
