You are a positive energetic role model who has a passion and skill for providing support, care and mentorship for youth at risk. You will make a difference in the lives of the clients we support and play an integral role in supporting their successful achievements. You will assist in leading the service plan implementation of client-focused, evidence-based therapeutic interventions and support required for children and youth in the residential programs who present complex mental health and behavioural issues.

Specifically, we are hiring for a full-time, Child and Youth Mental Health Worker for a residential program in Vancouver, BC that serves an Indigenous youth with complex mental health and behavioural issues. This line is 3pm-11pm and will include one weekend day.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education or Behavioural Sciences
  • Minimum (3) years’ recent experience providing assessment and treatment services for children & youth in residential settings with psychiatric/mental health concerns
  • Working knowledge of DSM diagnoses and related treatments, the Mental Health Act, the Hospital Act and the Child, Family and Community Service Act
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with challenging behaviours and de-escalation techniques in residential settings
  • Must complete an acceptable Criminal Record Search Report
  • BC Class 5 Driver's License

YOU’LL SCORE MORE POINTS IF YOU HAVE:

  • Knowledge of different child and youth care approaches, the development of youth service plans, and legislation and government regulations applicable to the program
  • Ability to work with high risk clients, assess problems, and determine appropriate strategies and methods for client coping skills
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and self-regulate in order to co-regulate the client
  • Clear, direct and sensitive verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience liaising with community resources and multi-disciplinary professionals and working within a team setting
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Current NVCI and/or Mandt certificate

A SAMPLE OF WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Providing inclusionary and flexible treatment and case management services for individuals with mental illness and concurrent disorders
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, their families, and colleagues to provide appropriate treatment services based on best practices and client need
  • Performing key duties such as client intake, treatment planning, crisis intervention, consultation, and individual counseling and groups to facilitate and coordinate client access to services
  • Identifying clients' strengths and building on them in order to improve their self-esteem
  • Teaching and reinforcing adaptive behaviours and coping techniques to clients in order to improve basic social and life skills
  • Facilitating recreational and/or educational activities with the youth
