As a legal affairs analyst, you help protect the organization’s legal interests by ensuring it complies with all laws. You also play a key role in making sure that its rights are protected and obligations are met. You may be responsible for one or more sub-specialties, such as contested matters and the Office of the Corporate Secretary (ethics and professional conduct, official registries, meeting minutes, the general meeting, etc.).

You analyze and help diagnose issues, provide opinions in accordance with your discipline’s rules, and help develop recommendations and implementation plans. You develop tools, methods and processes. Your projects and initiatives require extensive knowledge of your line of work.

You share ideas and help solve problems using your analytical skills, extensive knowledge of your line of business and ability to manage complexity. You interact with stakeholders working in other fields.

You provide discipline-specific support to your unit, clients and partners.

Reporting to the Manager, Claims Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for the complete, independent management of legal cases in recovery and defence brought before the Small Claims Court and the Régie du logement. You will be required to draft procedures, establish the strategy, meet witnesses and accompany the insureds or company representatives to Small Claims Court or the Régie du logement in litigation files of $15,000 or less.

Main responsibilities

Fully take charge of managing litigation files of under $15,000 brought before Small Claims Court or the Régie du logement.
Communicate with the insureds or internal Claims partners in order to determine the strategy to be adopted for each of your files.
Draft the appropriate legal procedures for the files you are assigned.
Negotiate or take part in mediation sessions.
Accompany the insureds or internal partners to Small Claims Court or Régie du logement hearings and make arguments in court.
Follow up with internal partners at various stages of the file.

Other working condition

Bachelor’s degree in law or college diploma in paralegal studies
At least two years’ relevant experience in insurance or civil liability

Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered

Be a licensed claims adjuster (an asset)
For vacant positions available in Quebec, please note that knowledge of French is required

Specific knowledge

Independent speaker, intermediate knowledge of English
