Job Description

  • Execute all planned maintenance inspections and repairs on all types of heavy trucks, high way tractors and auxiliary equipment
  • Run maintenance repairs on our equipment, including troubleshooting hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, electronics, etc.
  • Remove and replace major components (engines, transmissions, wheel motors, etc.)
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance guidelines are adhered to and maintain complete and accurate records
  • Operate company-provided equipment in a safe manner
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
  • Determine extent of repair required
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
  • Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, cutting torches and measuring instruments
  • Perform quality checks according to procedure
  • Ensure that all equipment is continually maintained at the highest standards
  • Maintain service paperwork, records and logs
  • Promote safety awareness; follow policies and procedures on quality, health, safety and environment
  • Follow company procedures and standards in addition to ensuring compliance with applicable federal and provincial regulations
  • Salary commensurate with experience

Experience and Competencies

  • Class 3 driver's licence with air endorsement considered an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with heavy equipment, tractors, trailers and light trucks or combination of education and experience
  • Valid CVIP Inspection Licence (or able to obtain this)
  • Experience in diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues
  • Ability to read schematics, drawings, or manuals to assist with diagnosis and repair of heavy equipment
  • Clean Drivers’ Abstract
  • Safety tickets including First Aid, H2S and PST would be considered an asset but not required
  • Pre-employment alcohol and drug testing
  • Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
  • Working experience to include: working with hydraulics, air brakes, clutches, transmissions, and heavy-duty engines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Competency using various computer systems to record and document repairs and diagnose problems
  • Familiarity with new technologies and equipment (e.g., Cat SIS, Cummins Insight, etc.)
  • Physical requirements of this position include the ability to push, pull, drag, and lift items up to 50 pounds, and occasionally must work at shoulder level with equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Work under adverse conditions including outside in any weather, around dirt, dust, and hazardous conditions
  • Frequent exposure to dust, fumes, smoke, gases odors and excessive noises
  • Superior mechanical aptitude and proven troubleshooting skills
  • Motivation, initiative and a strong work ethic
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Ability to maintain and repair heavy industrial equipment
  • Must be willing to work evenings/weekends/overtime as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform CVIPS, scheduled preventative maintenance, repairs, testing, visual inspections, and diagnosis of heavy equipment
  • Determine and document required repairs-prepare work orders/cost estimates for service approval
  • Perform testing and inspection to ensure repairs are complete and in compliance with manufacture specifications and government regulations and standards
  • Complete required documentation and reporting for inspections and repairs
  • Assist in troubleshooting, researching and sourcing information for complex repairs
  • Conduct field inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs, both scheduled and random
  • Provide troubleshooting, course of action for emergency repairs
  • Assist with training and mentoring of apprentices
  • Conduct all job responsibilities in accordance with HSE standards, guidelines and rules
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures
  • Understand and implement safe work practices and adhere to regulatory compliance as it relates to the organization’s industry
