Winpak Ltd., a public company, operates ten production facilities in Canada, the United States and Mexico, with its head office located in Winnipeg. Continued growth in sales has positioned the Company as one of the leaders in the North American market for the supply of flexible and rigid plastic packaging. Winpak's location in Winnipeg, Manitoba is currently searching to fill the position of: Accountant.
Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Accountant will be responsible for various daily/monthly general accounting functions, which assist in the successful completion of the Winpak Division consolidated monthly financial statements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities will include:
Maintain general ledger accounts with a high degree of accuracy and assisting in the periodic review of general ledger activity for potential errors.
Provide knowledge on various operating systems interfaced with the general ledger.
Compile and data enter various journal entries on a monthly basis.
Reconcile multiple bank accounts to the general ledger.
Prepare monthly working papers and general ledger account reconciliations.
Assist in the preparation of year-end audit files.
Assist in the preparation of various internal and external reports (eg. financial statements and supporting schedules, commodity tax preparations, Statistics Canada inquiries).
Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within the accounting department and entire organization in support of the Winpak TQI program.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Commerce degree, with a major in accounting and/or enrollment in the CPA program, with 1-3 years previous work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Prior experience with integrated accounting and manufacturing systems will be considered an asset.
The successful candidate will be a quick learner who can adapt and learn new software and will have advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel. They will have strong administrative skills and organization skills with the ability to work under minimal supervision and within tight deadlines. Proven ability to deal with multiples levels within an organization and has excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
