Position Summary

Seeking a dedicated, reliable City Transport Planner, who is looking to grow and build his/her career. This position acts as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all city drivers and coordinates all aspects of fleet movement including dispatch, planning, scheduling, maintaining equipment pools and cold chain management. Works closely with other departments including customer service, claims, facilities, safety, and intermodal to provide excellent customer care and ensure that loads are picked up and delivered on-time in a safe and legal manner. Individual should be comfortable in a fast-paced work environment, have excellent communication and computer skills as well as superior problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule and dispatch drivers in real-time through computer-based dispatch / satellite system for on-time pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Managing equipment pools and daily counts; coordinating movements to shops for repairs and maintenance.
  • Coordinate and manage dock work; assign and manage shunt drivers in the yard and at applicable facilities.
  • Protect product integrity and maintain cold chain through verifying daily yard checks, responding to temperature alerts and resolving equipment alarms or issues in a timely manner.
  • Manage Claims events (OS&D) including proper storage and timely reporting.
  • Schedule and work with interliner carriers on an as needed basis.
  • Other duties as assigned including (but not limited to) load tracking, on-time reporting, hours of service tracking, trouble-shooting intermodal billing issues, managing driver time-off requests, and responding to customer inquiries.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Experience with AS400 and People Net systems will be an asset.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • Creative problem-solving; multi-tasking; conflict management; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both individually and as a team.
  • Past trucking or rail experience will be preferred.
