WSP is currently seeking a Structural Engineering Team Lead to join our Power Central Canada group, located at our Markham (600 Cochrane Drive), Hamilton or St. Catharines office. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, Civil/Structural this position will be responsible for managing and mentoring engineers, designers and drafters as well as performing structural design for infrastructure associated with renewable energy projects.


Ensure design compliance with relevant engineering standards and codes, as well as internal QA/QC procedures, for own work and work of Structural Engineering Team;
Manage productivity and utilization of Structural Engineering Team;
Work closely with Business Development team, Project Management team and other engineering discipline teams;
Prepare and oversee the production of preliminary and detailed designs and specifications for hydroelectric generating stations, dams and substations;
Oversee the preparation of civil/structural drawings for construction;
Prepare and oversee the production of technical reports, memoranda and meeting minutes;
Perform individually or as a team member within civil/structural discipline and on interdisciplinary projects;
Perform interdisciplinary coordination with other engineering disciplines per project requirements;
Support field team in construction services including site inspection and contract administration;
Manage small-medium projects independently;
Manage time spent on design and project tasks to meet established project-specific workplans (cost, quality, timelines);
Assist and lead in coaching and peer review of the team;
Assist and lead in preparation of proposals;
Coordinate with counterparts from other regions and business lines;
Ensure continuous improvement of skills, technical knowledge, tools, work methods and marketing documents of team; and
Other duties as assigned


Bachelor or Master’s degree in Structural engineering or equivalent;
Registered Professional Engineer with the PEO;
Minimum of 10 years of engineering design experience with experience in hydropower and dams
Field experience in site monitoring or contract admin for construction of hydropower and dam structures considered an asset
Solid technical background with proficiency in the inspection, condition assessment, analysis, and design of structures for hydropower and dam projects is an asset
Multi-disciplinary versatility and knowledge;
Previous success in customer services, client management and proposal writing;
Experience with industry standard structural design software packages;
