If you have an interest in working with the project teams of a large infrastructure program delivering expert financial advice, look no further! Financial Services is looking for a Senior Accountant to join a vibrant and fast paced work environment.

The LRT Expansion and Renewal Branch manages a large interdisciplinary team including design engineers, construction managers, contractors, consultants and internal City of Edmonton staff. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant will represent the Financial Services Branch by being embedded within the project management teams of the LRT Expansion and Renewal Branch. You will be supporting the LRT Expansion and Renewal Branch where you will be leading or be involved in a variety of financial functions such as reporting, budgeting, forecasting, funding analysis and project monitoring to ensure there is proper financial oversight for projects in the branch.

Work diligently in a collaborative manner with members of large project teams as the key finance resource for the client
Manage and monitor activities associated with multiple complex contracts; monitor, track and manage project cash-flows; provide support in determining the ideal borrowing required; oversee invoice payment process for significant invoices ensuring timely payment
Responsible for a variety of general accounting, account reconciliation, journal vouchers, and legislated financial reporting needs for the LRT Expansion and Renewal Branch
Manage and perform the financial reporting for LRT Expansion and Renewal on a monthly and quarterly basis
Provide support, advice and consultation relating to special requests, reports and projects, including advising on complex accounting entries
Identify, research and proactively resolve complex financial reporting related issues, providing options and recommended solutions
Review actual results to budget and forecast and ensure all variances are appropriately addressed and communicated to the branch leadership team leadership team
Monitor and track budget adjustments required for the projects in the branch
Using in-depth project knowledge and close connection with project managers, act as interface between clients and Corporate Accounting Capital group to provide support and oversight of capitalization and funding entries
Interface between the client and the Financial Services Operating Group by providing analysis and support in understanding operating budget and performance
Continuous review of processes and procedures to find efficiencies
Other related duties as required

Qualifications :
A professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA) is required
5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience within a large organization, including business case development and financial analytics, including capital financial planning and budgeting as associated
Strong understanding of general accounting activities (budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, year-end activities, financial statement preparation)
Experience applying public sector accounting standards (PSAS) as directed by Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada Public Sector Handbook is considered an asset
Technical proficiency in major financial systems such as SAP, in addition to strong technical proficiency with major financial software systems
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills is required, in addition to proficiency using Google Applications and Microsoft Office Suite
Highly developed problem solving, analytical, attention to detail, and conceptual skills for application in a complex financial environment
Experience supporting construction projects is considered an asset
Strong business acumen with proven ability to support management in effective decision making
Strong aptitude to maintain working relationships with all levels of management and non-management personnel and build strong teams
Excellent communication skills both written and oral with the ability to communicate effectively both within finance and to staff without a financial background
Effective prioritization and organizational skills and demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and lead numerous projects outside of the day-to-day activities

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week

Salary: $51.232 - $64.710 (Hourly) ; $90,257.980 - $114,002.840 (Annually)
