How do you fit in?
Reporting to the Manager, Health and Safety, Midstream Division, this position will require someone who is able to be flexible with scheduling when the unexpected arises. This position will be fast paced and will require a dynamic and organized individual. There will be travel requirements in the Fort Saint John area, as well as a potential for other areas.
What you’ll be doing:
Actively communicate with the Regulatory Groups pertaining to Health & Safety
Actively participate on the H&S Team and the various local and divisional committees
Conduct and Chair H&S monthly Safety meetings and facility inspections
Conduct incident and accident investigations
Plan and perform Yearly Table top ERP exercises and assist with updates
Work closely with managers, supervisors, and workers to resolve health and safety related concerns
Assist with various safety related programs such as WHMIS, training programs, site orientations, exposure control plans
Be knowledgeable about Health and Safety regulations in both British Columbia and Alberta.
Assist and/or conduct safety meetings and pre-job meetings
Travel as required to provide on-site support to various locations
Attend various levels of meetings both in and out of town to provide subject matter expertise
Perform various audits and inspections to evaluate various health and safety programs and initiatives
Assist with Emergency Situation Management to fulfill a role within the company’s Incident Command System
Conduct in house training on company programs and policies
Assist with project work and new construction
Be available during off hours to provide support as required
Attend and participate in training for professional development
Assist with various levels of Health and Safety System documentation including creations, edits, approvals, and updates
Work with various groups to ensure all MOC work is completed including HAZOPS
What you must have:
Completion of Grade 12 education or higher
Completion of an Occupational Health and Safety certificate or diploma or similar related schooling
Professional verbal and written skills to create documents to be distributed to high level management
Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
Clean driver’s abstract and valid driver’s license
Experience with Incident and Accident Investigation preferred
Professional designation such as CRSP, CHSC, or related designation would be an asset
5 years or more in a safety or operations position would be an asset but training would be provided
Oil and Gas or heavy industrial experience would be an asset
Where you’ll be working:
AltaGas has a number of operations in the Fort St. John, British Columbia area including Gordondale, Townsend, and North Pine. This role will support the Health and Safety initiatives at those facilities as well as Pouce Coupe and Blair Creek. With a population of 21,000 and growing, Fort St. John is the largest city in Northeastern BC. Fort St. John is not only the largest city in the Northeast Region of BC; it is also the largest city in British Columbia situated along the world-famous Alaska Highway.
