Casual Worker (Shipping/Receiving & M.O.S.T Program)

Siloam Mission is currently seeking a Casual Worker for Shipping/Receiving Department and/or Mission Off the Streets Team (M.O.S.T) Program responsible for filling in for regular staff as needed when there is an absence or as a short term seasonal worker. This role is vital to the smooth and efficient working of the organization and provides support to the other staff by being at least partially pre-trained in certain areas. This position works hand in hand with various teams to ensure the accomplishments of the area with a minimum of disruption.
As part of Siloam Mission’s mandate to be a connecting point between the compassionate and less fortunate, as casual you will be in a unique position to facilitate volunteers whenever possible in the performance of your duties and encouraged to help us see more and new ways it can be done. This position also offers opportunities, if desired, for both the organization and the individual to transition into regular staff positions when opportunities open up.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
In general, the Casual Worker duties may include (but are not limited to) the following:
To provide support to Shipping/Receiving through occasional pick-up/delivery of items from suppliers; shipping and receiving of donation; managing inventory and other related tasks in the clothing room.
To proactively and responsively provide supervision to community members participating in Siloam Mission’s Pop-Up Toilet social enterprise in downtown Winnipeg. Duties include engaging the public as an ambassador of Siloam, as well as keeping accurate data records for all areas associated with the social enterprise.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
At least 1-2 Years of experience working in warehouse and/or social services setting
Possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License (preferably with a recent driver's abstract)
Ability to work with the inner city or form relationship with marginal individuals
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Capable to carry out detailed instructions
Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment
Good organization skills and basic computer skills (MS Office, Outlook)
Good problem-solving skills
Physically active i.e. able to stand long hours, perform lifting, and other physical activities required from time to time
Ability to lead a small team of temporary workers or volunteers
Ability to lift 50-60 lbs
Training and certificate on the following is an advantage:
- First Aid and CPR; Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST); Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI); Fork-lift & WHMIS

Hours of work:
On-call basis. Hours will be flexible and may include days, evenings and weekends, and nights, including statutory holidays, as scheduled by your supervisor. Number of hours per month is not guaranteed.
