The Maintenance Instrumentation & Electrical Technician is responsible for all aspects of maintenance and repair of instrumentation & Electrical equipment to ensure both short and long term safe, reliable and cost effective production in accordance with company policies and relevant government standards and codes.

Rotation: 14 days on, 14 day off


  • Troubleshoot, repair, test and maintain instrumentation and electrical equipment in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications; locate and diagnose trouble in the electrical system or equipment;
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance work, read and interpret blueprints;
  • Ensure that all work done complies with the Client’s Sustainable Development Requirements;
  • Identify and develop maintenance procedures and spare parts lists;
  • Provide support to the Control and Automation systems and electrical systems as required;
  • Support troubleshooting and equipment failure root cause investigations;
  • Provide input to maintenance plans and scheduled turnarounds/shut downs;
  • Ensure consistent application and compliance of Client’s Oilsands’ technical standards, industry standards, and electrical LOTO procedure;
  • Work with operators, other tradespeople and vendors to provide E&I expertise;
  • Respond to emergency E&I events;
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Must have journeyman dual tickets - Electrician and Instrument trade certificates;
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in maintenance and troubleshooting instrumentation & electrical and process control equipment within a large industrial setting;
  • Minimum of 5 years SAGD experience;
  • Experience with Honeywell DCS system would be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices, performance measures, maintenance systems and scheduling tools and techniques;
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities in resolving technical problems;
  • Thorough understanding of electrical systems and components, associated standards and electrical safety;
  • The ability to work safely and independently and lead or take initiative on most jobs as well as being able to work well in a team oriented environment;
  • In depth knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, and applicable legislative requirements;
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment in the maintenance of SAGD operating facility;
  • Valid driver license and clean abstract required;
  • Current HSE tickets (H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, Confined Space Entry/Monitor, Fall Protection, AWP/EWP, WHMIS);
  • Strong communication and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
