Perform medical transcription under the direct supervision of the Health Information Management, Provincial Services, DST Supervisor. Medical Transcriptionist's duties include the interpretation and transcription/editing of dictation (speech recognized and traditional) by physicians and other health care professionals across all medical specialties, to document patient care and facilitate continuity of health care services with related medical transcription functions and other clerical duties as required. Please note - this is a 1-year temporary MT position located on-site at Foothills Medical Centre, South Tower, Calgary.
As a Medical Transcriptionist, you will be responsible to interpret, transcribe and edit medical dictation by physicians and other healthcare professionals. You will produce patient care documentation by interpreting medical dictation including surgical procedures, consultations, diagnostics, discharge summaries, referral letters, and other report types. This will be done accurately, efficiently and in accordance with AHS standards, regulations and policies. Additionally, you will review reports for discrepancies, sort and distribute reports, and perform a variety of administrative activities in support of the area.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Accurate and efficient keyboarding skills required with minimum of 60 wpm. Recent acute care/clinical medical transcription experience/skills. Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices as outlined in the AHDI Book of Style. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based PC environment/applications/network environment. Ability to make mature judgments, communicate effectively, promote positive working relationships and work as a team player. Ability to concentrate for long periods with an aptitude for attention to detail. Excellent eye-hand and auditory coordination with superior listening skills. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical medicine, surgery, diagnostic tests, radiology, pathology, pharmacology, across all medical specialties. Recent experience with the transcription of operative reports and discharge summaries across all medical specialties. Excellent eye-hand and auditory coordination with superior listening skills. Able to lift 10 kg.
Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet established departmental turnaround times. Recent experience editing medical dictation using dictation system with integrated speech recognition. Accurate transcription speed of 17 minutes of medical dictation per hour. Knowledge of Microsoft Office required; Word, Excel, Outlook and Skype. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including English language usage, grammar, punctuation and style.
