Job Family Programming
Location Canada – Halifax
Reporting to the Studio Manager, the Technical Director will set the standard for technical work within the studio and take responsibility for developing the skill set(s) of the programming team to suit artistic game design and business goals. Possessing a robust knowledge of various game technologies, the successful candidate will also be responsible for selecting and promoting appropriate technologies for use within the studio's current and future projects. The Technical Director will directly oversee the members of the Programming Team and utilize their experience in providing managerial direction.
Determine what technologies are best suited for each project; understanding the engine, middleware, and any applicable constraints they may face
With the Technical Leads, manage the programming process and identify the programming tasks and time estimates
Ensure that each game is being built with a productive methodology, solid coding practices, technical briefs, and code reviews, while keeping long-term quality and future code sharing in mind
Identify technical risks on projects and develop contingency plans to put into place with the team
Maintain positive working relationships with development teams across Ubisoft to enhance the use of shared technologies
Maintain regular internal communications and encourage a pleasant team atmosphere
Effectively manage a diverse team of developers
Facilitate ongoing communication both within and across disciplines
Demonstrate good leadership, charisma, enthusiasm and sense of commitment
Manage the performance of the programming team staff and manage direct reports
Take responsibility for recruitment, on-boarding, development and professional training of the programming team
Ensure each Lead Programmer define clearing and challenging objectives to their team members
Take part in Knowledge sharing with other technical leadership within the organization
Propose solutions to improve the development of projects in the studio
Identify and promote the application of technical best practices within the studio
Facilitate and encourage the sharing of technical knowledge and code between projects
Engage in outreach to technical educational institutes locally and abroad
At least 6 years of leadership experience, preferably in the Video Games industry
A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent required
A Masters in Computer Science or other related field considered an asset
Exceptional management and communication skills
Capable of working and thriving within a multidisciplinary team including Art, Creative Design, Management, and Programming
Highly knowledgeable in various programming languages and current software engineering practices
Experience with modern mobile development on iOS and Android platforms
An ongoing track record of creating innovative solutions to complex problems
A demonstrated ability to adapt with change and remain flexible to changing deadlines, technical constraints, and project specific goals
A minimum of 3 shipped AAA mobile games
Experience with Unity an asset
