The Manitoba Government is seeking a Technical Officer, Information Transport Systems to work with Accommodation Services Division in Winnipeg.

Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers' Licence.
Must be able to travel to various locations around the Province using various methods of travel.
Must be able to work extended hours and overnight stays as needed.

Completion of a degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology and extensive technical experience consulting and managing technical projects. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience producing cabling designs based on established electrical engineering procedures, codes and regulations.
Experience managing infrastructure support, including day-to-day support of Information Transport systems and developing and maintaining inventories of network wiring sites.
Experience coordinating and planning projects, including preparing and monitoring project scope, budgeting, scheduling, participating in site visits, commissioning and providing ongoing technical advice.
Experience fielding and responding to technical support calls, including reviewing client service requests and troubleshooting solutions related to networks and servers.
Supervisory experience, with the ability to plan and review work of subordinate staff.
Experience working with the programs of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint.
Ability to oversee and ensure data network requirements on projects, and to assist in the development and maintenance of Information Transport standards.
Ability to coordinate and direct a project team of internal and external consultants and specialists.
Ability to plan and stay organized when dealing with multiple competing priorities.
Interpersonal communication skills with the ability to present information, recommendations and alternatives to clients and senior management.
Written communication skills with the ability to write detailed technical reports.
Verbal communication skills.

Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Engineering, the Senior Technical Officer of Information Transport Systems (ITS) functions as the most senior para-professional specialist in the field of Information Transport Systems, (information transport systems and telecommunications infrastructure). This is complex work that requires an individual with both technical and management abilities and fully experienced in ITS design, project management, and construction. The Senior Technical Officer of Information Transport Systems is responsible for the day-to-day support of the provincial cabling infrastructure (copper and fibre). The individual must also be capable of functioning as a Project Coordinator of single and multi-disciplined projects assigned relating to Information Transport Systems. Primary responsibilities include: producing ITS cabling designs and specifications for projects; managing environment infrastructure support; and organizing and coordinating the project through the selection, acquisition and monitoring of outside contractors.
