Data is critical to OTPP’s operations, reporting, and research functions. To that end, we are adding a Senior Manager Data Governance to the team who can implement data governance strategies and data catalogue solutions. We need someone who can focus on achieving key outcomes - including developing and operationalizing data glossaries, guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards.
We need a Senior Manager who can thrive in both a people-facing and technological role, someone who can act as a collaboration facilitator for service delivery, data management, IT development, and operational teams.
Who you'll work with
We foster a dynamic, fast-paced, innovative environment. You will work across the organization to disseminate education around data governance strategies and ensure collaboration around data assets and the effective cataloguing of information and assets stored throughout the organization.
What you'll do
Lead sustainable fit-for-purpose data governance to ensure that appropriate quality of data is used throughout reporting and analytics.
Provide subject matter expertise related to data governance and tailor recommendations that are fit-for-purpose within OTPP.
Lead the development of a roadmap and implementation plans of governance tools, processes and standards aligned to OTPP’s data strategy.
Provide leadership on application support for any third-party data governance products, including vendor management relationship, aligning our roadmap with vendor product roadmap, coordination with IT on software installation, product releases, software upgrade and production issues.
Operate sustainable processes for data catalogue maintenance to keep information up to date and easy to understand.
Develop a data service/help desk strategy to connect users with the extensive network of data specialists within the organization (data analysts, data engineers) to provide information and support for our data assets.
Build a team that collaborates with technology and business groups in developing and maturing data governance related to business glossary capabilities and data service/help desk.
Implement and operate the data service/help desk strategy to connect users with the expert data network.
Define and lead the roadmap and implementation plan for data governance roles and responsibilities within our various business units to ensure clear accountability for ownership and stewardship of OTPP’s critical data assets.
Establish collaboration across the organization around data assets and effectively use information stored throughout the organization.
Mature the organization’s approach to managing the lifecycle of data, including the retirement of legacy data assets.
Evolve data policies to support the adoption and adherence to data governance processes and procedures.
Establish and execute a communication and education regarding data governance program.
Develop monitoring and compliance for any data governance policies.
What you'll need
The education. You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, Economics, or equivalent experience. You have taken the Canadian Securities Course, or you have demonstrated equivalent experience.
The experience. You have 3+ years of experience working on data quality management, and governance design in financial services, capital markets, or pension management. You have at least 3 years in a management position and have implemented governance strategies.
The knowledge. You have:
Deep data catalogue vendor tools and the management of data dictionaries, data ownership, stakeholders, policies, and reporting.
Operational familiarity in the use of meta-data management, data quality, and data stewardship tools and platforms.
Demonstrated experience developing and operationalizing data guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards.
Good knowledge of information technology processes in the areas of application management, process management, and operational metrics.
Good understanding of project management tools and approaches
The leadership. You can work with senior leadership and front-line staff. You have excellent judgement and proven experience managing priorities, setting deadlines, and exceeding client expectations. You have expertise in overseeing data governance strategies from design to implementation. You can effectively influence and work with people at all levels, managing negotiations, and conflict.
The relationship-building expertise. You have expertise in building cross-functional relationships and working closely with internal stakeholders to develop effective strategies to realize visions and increase adoption. You have prior experience selecting vendor solutions and managing vendor relationships.
The transparent communication style. You have outstanding formal, informal, verbal, and written communication skills.
