Our client is a growing Iron Ore producer in Nunavut Territory. For their Power and Distribution Department we seek an Automation Technologist to play a key role in the successful development of a high-quality, low-cost, long-term Iron Ore Mine. Report to Power & Distribution Superintendent and Manager and provide field electrical and automation support within the Power & Distribution Department
Provide technical expertise in power generation, distribution and automation.
Develop industrial automation design, construction, programming and commissioning of automation system.
Manage electrical and automation improvement projects.
Lead Field troubleshooting and commissioning.
Support Operations through priorities set by Superintendent and Manager.
Provide site-wide electrical engineering and automation support, including but not limited to:
Electrical and Automation reliability issue investigation and improvement
Technical support on Diesel power generation up to 16MW capacity.
Technical support for site wide electrical and automation infrastructure.
Technical Support for Allen Bradley, Schneider, Omron and Siemens PLC.
Technical support for Rockwell MV VFD.
Manage small to medium scale automation improvement projects.
Develop automation design, program and commissioning.
SCADA system development through PLC and data archive integration
Process control systems troubleshooting and commissioning.
Assist PI system support.
Provide training on PLC troubleshooting and program change.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform various project administration tasks, including coordinating meetings, taking meeting minutes, forwarding communication releases, and perform maintenance of project tracking logs (i.e. issues, change control, etc.) in order to satisfy project management processes.
College Diploma in C.E.T Automation, Ctonrol or Istrumentation required
Bachelor's Degree. Major in Control and Instrumentation preferred
1-3 years' experience in Siemens S7-1200/1500
Minimum 5 years' experience in Allen Bradley PLC Controllogix
Registered as a C.E.T with OACETT, ASET, ASTTBC or other recognized affiliation with ability for registration in NU/NT
Automation design, installation, programming and commissioning. experience required
Control and Automation troubleshooting i.e. Siemens S7-1500 series, Allen Bradley Contrologix, Schneider SoMachine and DeltaV DCS.
Field troubleshooting and commissioning experience required
Experience in protective relay settings and configuration i.e. SEL, GE Multilin, Eaton EGR/EDR series preferred
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office required
SAP experience preferred
PI OSI Soft module preferred
Excellent relationship management skills: listening, diplomacy, patience and negotiation.
Demonstrated ability to partner with cross functional groups to successfully manage project deliverables.
Exceptional analytical skills at both strategic and functional levels.
Proven ability to lead and work through others without direct reporting relationship to achieve business goals utilizing persuasion and influencing skills.
Knowledge in organizational design and change management principles and methodologies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of the organization.
Lean manufacturing experience preferred.
Understand reliability and maintenance concepts.
Ability to develop and run complex projects from concept to commissioning and operation.
2-week Fly-in, Fly-out rotation
Candidate shall be knowledgeable and competent in the systems and equipment noted below:
8 kV power generation and distribution: o design, maintenance operation and troubleshooting
relevant electrical codes and monitoring systems
Power plant switchgear and MCC
Control systems Knowledge: o PLC’s: Allen Bradley (control logix and compact logix), Siemens (S7-1500) and Schneider SoMachine.
HMI: Panelview & Magelis
Thorough knowledge of programming and troubleshooting all systems noted.
New program development, and optimization of existing programs.
