JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Associate Director, Employee Services, the Disability Management Coordinator is responsible for the management of occupational and non-occupational absenteeism due to illness or injury and supports the Early and Safe Return to Work process, filing Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims and Long Term Disability (LTD) Claims in accordance with the Attendance Support Program, WSIB legislation, LTD contract and all applicable policies, collective agreements and applicable legislation.

EDUCATION
  • Post-secondary diploma from a recognized college in Health Sciences, Occupational Health, Kinesiology and/or Human Resources.
  • Post-secondary degree in Health Sciences, Occupational Health, Kinesiology and/or Human Resources preferred.
KNOWLEDGE
  • 3 years experience with workplace claims management and absence administration.
  • 5 years experience in supporting a medium size (200+ staff) organization with multiple work locations with workplace claims management and absence administration preferred.
  • Completion of courses in Occupational Health and Safety and Disability Management.
  • CHRP designation and/or NIDMAR designation preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages all occupational and non-occupational absenteeism due to illness or injury, ensuring consistent administration of all applications and claims documentation.
  • Ensures all claim types are appropriately identified and documented.
  • Processes all medical documentation submitted related to occupational and non-occupational absences.
  • Develops case management strategies and determines case streams (WSIB, LTD, sick, MVA) for all cases.
  • Communicates with employees and managers regarding claim status and progression.
  • Communicates with third party providers (WSIB and LTD carrier).
  • Files Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims and Long Term Disability (LTD) Claims in accordance with the Attendance Support Program, WSIB legislation, LTD contract and all applicable policies, collective agreements and applicable legislation.
Determines suitability and appropriateness for Early and Safe Return to Work.
  • Works in collaboration with the employee, management and third party provider (if applicable) to ensure all required information is obtained to develop appropriate Return to Work Plan.
Reports on compliance of workers.
  • Monitors workers submissions of suitable medical documentation to support occupational or non-occupational absences.
  • Tracks and reports on occupational absences and progression of Return to Work plans to WSIB.
Processes billings for third party providers (ex. WSIB Schedule 2 billing, legal provider) to ensure accounts remain in good standing.

Consults with Management, Ministry of Labour representatives, and Occupational Health Nurses to determine appropriate return to work strategies.
  • Provides related training and education.
  • Provides on-site visibility at various work locations to facilitate processes and respond to questions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
