Job Summary

The Intermediate Accountant plays a critical role on the finance team and is primarily responsible for the timely and accurate preparation and analysis of financial reports. Other responsibilities include payroll, balance sheet/inter-company reconciliations and asset management. This individual must have a strong understanding of accounting principles, is able to collaborate closely with various stakeholders and is proactive in addressing issues and recommending ways to improve processes.


  • Perform integrations between business/operational system to financial system;
  • Complete month end reporting and issuance of Monthly Financial Statements in a timely manner and in accordance to generally accepted accounting principles. This includes the preparation of accruals, journal entries, cost allocations, depreciation, account reconciliations, inter-company transactions and other month end activities;
  • Performs semi-monthly payroll duties and annual issuance of T4's and T4A's;
  • Assist with treasury management including preparing daily bank reconciliations;
  • Utilize available technology to enhance financial reporting capabilities;
  • Analyze and interpret variances from prior periods to identify risks and opportunities;
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial reviews;
  • Aid Assistant Controller with sales tax remittances and other regulatory (e.g. WCB) remittances;
  • Assist with year-end reporting documents;
  • Compile supporting documentation for various audits; and
  • Support the finance team, senior leadership team and business units with ad hoc projects or tasks.


  • Have obtained, or working towards, a CPA designation or equivalent;
  • 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience;
  • Superior computer and technical skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel (experience with Power Query and Power Pivot would be an asset);
  • Experience using various financial and operational systems;
  • Strong planning and multi-tasking abilities;
  • High attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Proven self-starter with strong work ethic, organizational skills and time management skills;
  • Proactive and analytical problem solver;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment to complete assigned tasks.

  • Reports to Corporate Controller
