Enterprise Software Engineering and Architecture team is leading APIs, Microservices and Banking-as-a-services (BaaS) engineering, architecture and governance in PLATO.

We are looking for an energetic and results driven API & Microservices Design and Architecture Team Lead to join the passionate team. This role is responsible for API design including data modelling and self-serve design tooling development, lead the de-composition and transformation of incumbent and legacy systems to Microservices in alignment with enterprise API, Microservices and BaaS architecture patterns and principals. This role will provide oversight and governance on all enterprise BaaS and APIs across Scotiabank to achieve benefits such as enterprise-wide interoperability, enterprise scalability, risk mitigation and reuse of strategic assets. The role will contribute to enterprise API & Microservices roadmaps, strategy and operational plans which align with the overall organization’s objectives.

In this role you will:
Drive and design API & Microservices architectural technical solutions and strategies for refactoring and de-compositing legacy or monolith systems.
Analyze incumbent and legacy system code (typically Java, C/C++, Cobol, RPG, .Net, JavaScript, or C# and etc.) and document core logical functional components and workflows.
Create and publish API design principles, patterns, architecture and contribute to API design planning/strategy/roadmap.
Assess and analyze business strategy & requirements, the current technical environment and technology options to evaluate solution alternatives that meet business needs and build multi-year platform/product roadmaps
Lead the creation of APIs, Banking-as-a-services (BaaS) and Microservices based on industry common data modeling standards including FSLDM, ISO20022 and etc.
Lead the development of enterprise API design toolings for offering self-serve API design with automated validation and governance.
Lead the creation and maintenance of all legacy/new Swagger 2.0 and Open API 3.0 documentation in the source code repository and API management portal by following industry version control process and standards.
Collaborate and review the Business Capability Model for creating re-usable APIs and BaaS across enterprise.
Lead the discussions between domain experts to extract the necessary information to develop an accurate model.
Work as part of fast paced innovation/development teams to design new APIs and BaaS with agility and velocity.
Present and leverage technical information and solutions in a way that establishes rapport persuades stakeholders and achieves understanding and consensus at all levels.
Participating in design discussions focused on scalability and design and implementation API & Microservices best practices.
Readiness and motivation to lead a group or team of IT professionals (e.g.
Participating in planning, retrospective sessions and leading stand-ups
What we are looking for?

Bachelor (equivalent or higher) degree in Computer Science.
15+ years of information technology engineering and architecture experience in high-volume, scalable, complex, customer-oriented IT environment, especially in Financial / Banking Sector.
10+ years of proven software engineering leadership in technology architecture and roadmap development, as well as execution of major projects.
Proven experience and excellent knowledge of most common software architecture & design patterns and the complexity of large global financial organization.
Proven successful experience on transforming monolith applications to Microservices.
Strong technical background (i.e. ability to read/write code), proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Nodejs, Go, JavaScript, C#, Ruby, Python and etc.
Excellent knowledge of the API design ecosystem: Swagger, Open API, RAML, YAML, Smart Doc and etc.
Good knowledge of API & Microservices technologies and containers. (i.e. Spring Boot, Kafka, NiFi, GraphQL, Istio, Mesh, Envoy, Docker, Kubernetes and etc)
Excellent knowledge of different types of network topologies and security with proven integration experience on scalable complex systems across geolocations or clouds infrastructure.
Awareness of how scalable, enterprise-level software system is designed (both on code and infrastructure levels).
Experience designing and implementing cloud-based applications in main public cloud offerings (Microsoft Azure or AWS or Google Cloud).
Understanding of software release process (environments, binary repositories, CI/CD
Self-starter and self-motivated to learn new technologies and ability to adapt to change while continuing to deliver on assigned objectives.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills with ability to build and foster relationships with business users, project stakeholders, strategic technology partners and external vendors.
Results driven project champion, able to lead at the executive level major projects, able to influence and collaborate with teams of senior technical professionals and executives.
