You will join CMH as we embrace a new era of care, expanded services and innovation. In January 2020, we opened a new five-storey patient care wing that has:

Patient care areas double in size, including large surgical suites that accommodate advanced minimally invasive surgical equipment.
A 40-bay Emergency Department with dedicated treatment areas for mental health and different subspecialties.
Expanded inpatient Mental Health, Mental Health Day Hospital and Intensive Care programs
A patient-centered building design, promoting safety, advanced infection control, healing and intuitive wayfinding, while maximizing natural lighting and sight lines to the natural beauty of the Grand River.

The hospital is preparing for its next transformative phase that includes a total renovation of its Wing B inpatient care and clinical support areas. Upon completion in 2025, our new hospital will increase its beds from 143 to 197 to accommodate expanded services like Surgery, Rehabilitation, and Medicine programs as well as Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory services. About 80% of inpatient rooms will be single occupancy to meet the latest infection control and building code standards for hospitals.

Job Description:
Reporting to the Manager, the Respiratory Aide assists in providing respiratory care for patients and supports patient flow within the hospital as required. The Respiratory Aide communicates effectively with patients, staff and families, and provides excellent customer service at all times. Working alongside the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), responsibilities include patient assessment, vital sign monitoring, and assisting the RRT in the provision of respiratory care. Documentation in the electronic record is required for care provided. This position works co-operatively with team members and receives direction from the RRT staff. The incumbent demonstrates professional responsibility and actions consistent with hospital policies and procedures. This is a part-time position to work all shifts including days, nights and evenings, as well as weekends and holidays.

Skills and Qualifications:
Respiratory therapy students who have completed the first year of their program
Pre-clinical students preferred
Current BCLS Certification required
Knowledge of ACLS and NRP algorithms an asset
Current mask fit test an asset
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of patient populations
Proficient computer experience and excellent keyboarding skills is preferred
Previous experience with Meditech system is preferred
Working knowledge of routine practices related to Infection Control required
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ongoing commitment to continuous learning
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
Proven dedication to an interdisciplinary team approach
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and be flexible
Demonstrated adherence to attendance policies is required
