To create new and revise existing product designs for production, as well as, suppliers.


Design Lead

KEY Responsibilities:

  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (or the “Act”) and the regulations, and Mott policies
  • Produce and revise engineering drawings accurately using Solidworks and AutoCAD
  • Follow up with special items
  • Create CAM files for numerous CNC machines
  • Troubleshoot and resolve design issues
  • Support the resolution of technical issues from production including: tool and machine limitations, welding limitations, excessive procedures, drawing accuracies and standardization
  • Populate Mott order system with designs of catalogue items
  • Maintain accuracy of bill of material (BOM) items within the Mott system
  • Plan and organize assemblies, weldments, subassemblies, and parts within the BOM
  • Resolve order conflicts including: BOM inaccuracies, design to catalogue number conflicts, description inaccuracies, and improperly updated designs
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects by fully utilizing Mott’s design software and by communicating any order system, catalogue and process opportunities for improvement
  • Communicate with both internal and external personnel including: Engineering Manager, Engineering Project Coordinator, Manufacturing Technician, other Product Designers, Sales and Project Coordinators, IT, plant employees, and customers
  • Provide back up to other Product Designers including those that may design for different departments
  • Perform other duties as required

Skills & Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a design or engineering role (including co-op placements)
  • Previous mechanical experience
  • Intermediate computer skills including MS Office
  • Skilled in CAD software including AutoCAD and Solidworks
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of bend allowances and sheet metal is an asset
  • Intermediate math skills including geometry
  • Attention to detail is critical
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Quality oriented
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively multi-task
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Familiarity with ISO quality standard
