Qualitest, a global manufacturer and supplier of materials testing and quality control equipment, located in Richmond Hill, Ontario, is looking to expand and recruit a Service Technician / Electromechanical Engineer to provide customer service activities, calibration, installation, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of electromechanical testing instruments on-site and off-site.

Responsibilities and Duties

Ability to travel up to 25% will be required to occasionally perform equipment installations, training, repair or calibration at our customers' sites. The successful candidate must have the ability to utilize proven troubleshooting processes to diagnose and resolve technical issues on a variety of electromechanical instruments. The ability to manage service call scheduling, parts inventory and administrative responsibilities with minimal supervision is required. Additional responsibilities include; customer relationship management, written documentation of service activities, and effective interaction and communication with internal technical support personnel, manufacturing, and sales as well as increasing the revenue for our service dept. The Technical Service Technician will also represent the company in a positive, professional manner in all dealings with Qualitest customers, both external and internal.

Our range of instruments, include products such as tensile testers, hardness testers, impact testers, temperature chambers, spectrometers and XRF analyzers.This person will interact with our customers and other service sub-contractors, via telephone, on-line and on-site, and this role includes familiarizing customers with instrument operation and maintenance.

Qualifications and Skills

The Service Engineer contributes to organization's growth through sale/renewal of service agreements, upgrades and identifying new instrument leads. Our key requirements are:

  • Two to three years of field service experience with force, load cells, pressure, and mechanical instruments
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve problems on electronic and mechanical instrumentation in a scientific laboratory environment
  • Be reliable, confident, eager to learn and team player
  • Work with little direction and be self-driven
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, fluent in written and verbal English
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong customer relationship skills
  • Experience in metrology or calibration of industrial, electronic or mechanical instrumentation or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Technical certification degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Metrology, Quality Control, or equivalent training
  • Good organizational and computer skills (MS Office, Maintenance database, SalesForce, etc.)
  • Positive, efficient, creative, independent and a "Can Do" attitude
  • Valid driver's license and legal clearance to travel internationally required
