Foundation Research Assistant
Summer Position. 9 weeks, 30 hours a week.
Compensation: $15.50 an hour
About the role
The Foundation Research Assistant plays a key role in fueling the engine of research data management and analysis at the Holland Bloorview Foundation. Reporting to the Officer, Research & Philanthropy, the Foundation Research Assistant is responsible for data entry, donor prospect research and media review. This position will play a key role in using digital tools to acquire new donors and supporters.
This position will work closely with the Officer, Research & Legacy Giving, and will support the Philanthropy and the Partnerships teams. The Philanthropy team engages donors giving at the leadership level (gifts of $10,000 and more) and the Partnerships team engages corporate donors to the Foundation. The larger impact of this role will be enabling good data management (supporting Finance & Operations) and cultivation and stewardship opportunities with donors and prospects (supporting Stakeholder Engagement).

Responsibilities and Requirements of Holland Bloorview Foundation’s Research Assistant
Key Responsibilities
Prospect Research
- Research new prospective donors, including individuals, corporations and foundations, with emphasis is on building the donor pool at the $10,000 plus level.
- Support strategies for the identification and cultivation of major donors by assessing current and prospective donors, reviewing fundraising priorities and identifying and researching potential donors to support those fundraising priorities.
- Analyze and prioritize prospects according to financial capacity indicators, affinity to healthcare causes and propensity to give to a leading pediatric hospital.
- Use Foundation research tools to research detailed biographical, career and interest information plus financial qualification.
- Use in-house templates to craft prospect research profiles of donors and prospects.
- Work to keep constituent data and activity updated.
- Leverage publicly available information, news media and appropriate social media platforms for prospect research.
- Regularly perform data entry and sort data in spreadsheets.
Teamwork & Communications
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with direct colleagues.
- Ability to identify and adhere to a code of ethics, maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard donor data and client and family information.
- Take on training opportunities as available.
- Responsible for sharing formal updates with supervisor in weekly check-in meetings. Informal mentoring check-ins 2 times per week.
- Participate in weekly all-staff meeting.

Job Requirements:
- One to two years’ research, fundraising or related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of hospital services and community engagement is preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in internet searching.
- High literacy. Effective oral and written communication skills, including a concise writing style.
- Strong collaboration skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task, strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while exercising good judgement.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues related to disability and social justice.
- Computer skills and experience in software applications for word-processing, data entry, and web searching (e.g. MS Word/Pages or Google Docs, MS Excel/Numbers or Google Sheets, web browsers).
- Ability to translate content for multiple audiences, and to analyze and concisely summarize information.
- Experience working with children and/or with historically marginalized populations an asset.
- No preference as to educational background.

This position is funded through a government program which creates summer job opportunities for youth; therefore, eligible candidates must be:
- Youth between the ages of 15 and 30 (at the start of the employment)
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
- Legally entitled to work in Canada

The Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation has a permanent hybrid work-from-home and in-person work culture.
