ERM is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Consultant - Social Performance to take a leading role on social impact assessment, management programs, stakeholder engagement, strategy, social risk, and social due diligence projects, particularly related to the mining and energy sectors. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record leading and reviewing projects in compliance with both Canadian and international best practice standards, working closely with clients and team members, and contributing to winning proposals.

In this role, you will be based in Toronto, ON or Montreal, QC , with short periods of travel as required based on project needs. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and/or support a wide variety of social performance projects related to the mining, oil and gas, and other sectors. Expected project delivery activities include report writing, undertaking and organizing data collection and survey field work, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
Provide technical expertise and, if required, manage projects for impact assessments, stakeholder/indigenous engagement, due diligence, risk assessment, management planning, monitoring and evaluation, strategy, and implementation support.
Ensure that all work is compliant with relevant regulatory requirements and other guidance, including provincial and federal permits and regulations, international standards (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles), industry guidance (e.g., ICMM) and others.
Be accountable for the quality of deliverables and management of schedule and budgets.
Provide oversight and quality control for engagement database management.
Collaborate with other ERM global practitioners to execute projects. Participate on teams composed of multi-disciplinary professionals from multiple offices around the global ERM organization.
Mentor junior-level and mid-level consulting staff to develop their skill sets including technical skills, project experience, and general consulting and decision-making skills.
Contribute to proposal development, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates in accordance with ERM’s policies and processes.
Maintain client relationships to support new and repeat business.
When required, direct and monitor project management activities related to projects, including task delegation and direction, subcontractor management, health & safety protocol management, monitoring of commercial performance, quality review of deliverables, and interaction with clients.
Work with other global ERM resources to deepen relationships with ERM key clients to expand ERM’s profile and market share in the global IAP market (through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development support).

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in international development, economics, social science, geography, public health, public policy, political science, resource management, anthropology or a similar degree.
10+ years of consulting experience, including impact assessment, in Canada and/or internationally.
Experience working with a variety of project stakeholders and indigenous groups, including engagement and capacity building.
Versatile, responsive, and results-oriented, with strong critical thinking skills.
Solid grasp of the key social performance issues, management challenges and opportunities related to resource development, especially mining and oil and gas sectors, and a high degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of social performance and impact assessment best practices.
Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including excellent writing skills in English.
Experience developing and delivering presentations, trainings, and facilitation.
Fluency in at least one additional language relevant to locations where extractive industries are active (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian) is an asset.
Positive reputation with clients and regulators (e.g., private sector, government agencies, international finance institutions).
Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges.
Demonstrated experience working with a diverse team including mentorship and/or line management of more junior staff.
