To learn more, visit: www.q4inc.com.The gig.The Data Specialist will be responsible for expanding, maintaining and fine-tuning our databases and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow, storage and collection for cross-functional teams. We are looking for an experienced data administrator, data steward and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems or building them from the ground up. The Data Specialist will support our software developers, database architects, data analysts, data engineers and data scientists on data initiatives. The Data Specialist must be self-directed and comfortable in providing support for developing, implementing, and improving database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

The right person will be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even re-designing our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives. Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies.Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.Keep our data separated and secure through multiple data centers and AWS regions thereby ensuring data security and integrity.Establish and document operational objectives and work plans, improvement plans, for operational and analytical data stores.Perform analysis and evaluate database performance to maximize efficiencies and take advantage of tuning opportunities.Work with and provide recommendations to application development teams to appropriately restructure data for maximum efficiency.Perform complex database maintenance such as, but not limited to, executing complex, corrective action database utilities, designing script structures, appropriately defining indexes, analyzing requirements, and designing database access paths to meet performance requirements.Interpret business and/or process requirements and create AWS RDS database designs of varied complexity. This may include multiple components of a system and/or a collection of tables for an application.Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of physical as well as cloud (AWS) database design, troubleshoot and resolve complex, high-severity issues and mentor technical support staff.QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering or a related field required, or equivalent education.Expert understanding of AWS architecture and RDS DB instances (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Dynamo, SQL) in terms of performance improvement, reducing query costs and data storage.Experience working on ETL models/code, ELT tools.Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.Analytical mind, critical thinker, problem-solver.Understanding of the financial services industry and global capital markets.Why Q4?We work hard, and we have fun.
