The Manager, International Partnerships designs, coordinates and implements partnership strategies, namely developing and nurturing the relationship with key national partners such as Export Development Canada (EDC) and Global Affairs Canada (GAC), to assist BDC leaders in achieving their business objectives. He or she acts as a liaison between the region and all lines of business as well as corporate in the implementation of corporate and regional strategies to build sales and support regional economic development priorities in line with BDC priorities, related to the internationalization agenda. The Manager, International Partnerships represents BDC with stakeholders and partners within the entrepreneurial ecosystem including provincial government relations and regional economic development agencies.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Become the resident expert on partners that support the internationalization of Canadian SMEs.
Nurture relationships with key partners such as EDC and GAC.
Develop other partnerships that will stimulate the internationalization of SMEs.
Support the Government Relations team in representations with government officials and coordinating BDC participation in key government programs related to the internationalization of Canadian SMEs.
Support development of international partnership hub on portal and nurture content.
Identify and lead internationally focused events for the Canadian Entrepreneurs
Advise internal stakeholders on where BDC employees should participate at key international events and build corresponding briefing notes and value-add material.
Select and manage hosting of foreign delegations and video conferences with strategic international stakeholders.
Support the development of alternative or new digital partnership channels that will lead to efficiencies, financing and advisory opportunities as well as client acquisitions.
Develop the strategic and tactical plan from a partnership standpoint in line with the internationalization agenda.
Support Regional Partnership Managers in their role by providing leads to partners that will help advance their regional strategies related to the international agenda
Draft and negotiate Memorandums of Understanding outlining the terms of collaboration with a partner and support other business lines in negotiating and drafting partnership agreements.
Assist Leadership in managing relationships (including drafting of briefing notes and recommended actions) with key stakeholders and partners to support corporate objectives.
Share best practices and market intelligence regarding partnerships with Head Office and other regions to ensure alignment.
Develop and maintain relationships with partners and regional stakeholders, and represent BDC as required, in accordance with the policies, corporate directives and procedures in place.
Promote, collect and be accountable, when applicable, for partnership data, metrics and referral sources, to measure and evaluate the impact of such partnerships and relationships.
Collect, analyze and report market intelligence related to partners and stakeholders across business lines.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Political Science or a related field, with a major in international relations
Minimum of eight to ten years of experience in the financial sector and stakeholder management, including a minimum of three years of experience in international relations
Experience in developing business relationships and leveraging strategic partnerships, a strong asset.
Excellent track record for building positive and long-term relationships with key influencers, as well as networks with business partners.
A strong knowledge of provincial government and regional economic development agencies would be an asset.
A good level of knowledge and understanding of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Strong leadership, presentation and negotiation skills.
Strong alliance and partnership management skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision in an unstructured environment.
Effective written and verbal communication skills in both official languages.
Understanding of EDC and GAC operations a strong asset (mandate, objectives, strategies, business lines, head office functions).
