Plains Midstream Canada is currently looking to fill the position of Rail Operator at our process plant located in Fort Saskatchewan, AB. As a member of the Plains Fort Saskatchewan (PFS) Operations Team within Unifor Local 530-A, the successful candidate will report to the Rail Team Lead. Our ideal candidate will excel in a team environment and be responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operations of the PFS facility.

This is a position that requires day and night shift work on a rotating, 12-hour basis.

Responsibilities:
Ensuring adherence to safety standards in accordance with company policy and legislated requirements;
Verifying tank car numbers with loading instructions to ensure accurate placement of cars;
Inspecting exterior of rail cars prior to and after loading, and prior to shipping, as per TDG requirements;
Connecting, disconnecting, gauging and sealing LPG railcars as the loading process requires;
Performing railyard switching operations required to position railcars at various stages of the operation;
Interacting with CN and PMC staff regarding receipt, inspection, and shipment of railcars;
Positioning railcars for loading, unloading, repairs and shipment;
Inspecting and operating a railcar mover in order to meet daily railyard requirements;
Performing routine inspections of the railyard equipment (track and switches) and reporting defects;
Assisting outside vendors in matters dealing with railcar requirements (repairs, inspections, etc.);
Performing mechanical troubleshooting for respective loading equipment, pump and valve maintenance, safety system testing, and periodic inspection/calibration of equipment;
Understanding the flow rates of product in conjunction with car loading and movement in order to meet daily loading requirements;
Other duties as required to support activities within his/her area or other areas within the facility.

Qualifications:
Minimum Grade 12 education;
Valid Driver’s License;
Previous loading or rail operations experience preferred;
Strong safety orientation;
Ability to recognize problems, collect data, and establish facts in order to draw valid conclusions;
Ability to confidently and accurately calculate figures and amounts relate to proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume;
Self-starter with a strong sense of responsibility and ability to work with minimal supervision;
Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word and Excel;
Effective written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to work outside on a year-round basis in a physically demanding environment, including the ability to climb ladders and stairs on a routine basis;
Ability to work rotating shifts (days and nights);
Successful candidates will be required to complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
