The opportunity

The Compensation Manager partners with business leaders and HR Business Partners across Teachers’ to provide strategic consulting and analytical support on various compensation programs, processes and systems such as the annual compensation process and market surveys.

They will serve as technical compensation expert and lead aspects of compensation activities including associated communication, provide direction and interpretation of the compensation programs as well as design and develop tools to facilitate compensation processes.

You will work closely with internal partners in HR and business leaders as well as develop external relationships with peers within and beyond our industry. This includes maintaining relationships with agencies, service providers and consultants.

What you'll do

Strategy:
Provide input into developing the total rewards vision, guiding principles, strategies, goals, action plans and measurements required to ensure effective programs.
Understand trends and issues in compensation and actively recommend and execute solutions that are relevant for Teachers’.
Lead the implementation and administration of Teacher’s compensation programs.
Align compensation strategy and solutions with business strategies and lead the development of HR Analytics.

Operational:
Manage the administration of the company's compensation programs (salary planning, promotions, new hires, annual and long-term incentive programs, etc) including tracking of data, performance metrics, and valuations.
Manage the budget and accruals for compensation related programs, in partnership with Finance.
Conduct various compensation-related analyses including data modeling scenarios and cost impact of program recommendations.
Keep abreast of trends and practices. Collect, analyze and report on global pay data, market research, and prepare reports, charts, graphs to clearly outline findings and support any recommendations.
Review compensation requests, develop recommendations and present them to the Director Compensation & Benefits for approval.
Manage the job evaluation process and provide support to job analysis and grading, including providing HR Business Partners with advice and assistance.
Manage and maintain pay equity plans.
Build and maintain (in concert with HR team and business leaders) job descriptions, job titles, salary ranges, and related tools.
Provide support to the Director Compensation & Benefits in preparing materials for the Board of Directors.
Develop and deliver ongoing communication and education to employees and managers around total compensation concepts and practices.
Develop, recommend, implement, and communicate policies and/or guidelines for the organization to support business strategies in relation to compensation.
Find opportunities and solutions (including systems) to improve compensation processes.
Support the implementation of recognition principles and practices across the organization.

Participate as a project lead or team member on various projects.
Contribute to the development of a strong Total Rewards team through peer support, information sharing, and desire for continuous learning.
Confidentially and effectively communicate with senior HR employees and clients.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the Total Rewards Team and overall Human Resources department.
Demonstrate performance management leadership by: Guiding employees to create Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound (SMART) Goals; Providing feedback on the performance results (outcomes) and how the results are achieved (behaviours); Engaging employees in meaningful and ongoing performance dialogue throughout the year, and conducting effective goal setting and development planning, mid-year check-in and year-end review discussions with employees.
Coaching and mentoring team. Develop current staff by ensuring adequate training is provided to new employees, cross-training opportunities are explored (if available and relevant), and on-going professional development of staff is achieved.
Improve team efficiency by planning and prioritizing workload and set the tone for our culture and role model our values.
Monitor and manage employee performance by: meeting with employees weekly, and delivering quarterly and annual evaluations in a timely manner.
You possess compensation knowledge and experience to facilitate the processing of processes and outcomes, preparing reconciliations, reviewing and evaluating jobs, and preparation of management reports and analysis.
You will identify opportunities/requirements, and develop solutions/courses of action where there is limited documentation/guidance.
Ability to combine data, analysis, intuition, and experience resulting in good decisions.

What you'll need
University degree in a numerically based discipline with a high level of mathematical competence
CPP and GRP designation an asset
Deep technical knowledge of compensation practices, processes, and policies
Deep knowledge of Investment and Financial roles
Sound knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation, concepts, collective agreements, company policies and benefits provisions.
Extensive knowledge of various Microsoft office products including advanced Excel skills including data management, statistical analysis, and pivot tables.
Seven to ten years of compensation experience in the Financial Sector
Global experience and Project management experience
