University of Alberta International is seeking an enthusiastic individual to assist the Global Education Program with a variety of programs. The Global Education Program (GEP) inspires and cultivates students to grow as global citizens through programming which focuses on global issues and intercultural relations. GEP programs include International Week and the Visiting Lectureship in Human Rights.

The Global Education Assistant will report to and carry out tasks assigned by Global Education Coordinators to implement programs.
Assisting with the planning, delivery and wrap-up of events, including generating invitation lists, booking venues, liaising with caterers and managing registration.
Communicating with presenters about venues and AV needs.
Assisting with hospitality and travel arrangements.
Collecting and maintaining workshop details in Google or Excel spreadsheets.
Training, coordinating and deploying student staff and volunteers to assist in various tasks (e.g., distributing materials, providing AV services, preparing exhibits and venues).
Assisting with promotion of events and programs.
Assisting in preparing statistical and evaluation data and reports.
Other duties as needed.
Most of the responsibilities of this role will be carried out in the UAI Office.
The ideal candidate will be a University of Alberta student who is completing their studies in December 2019.
Minimum High School Diploma, supplemented by post-secondary coursework.
Excellent written communication and customer service skills.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent organizational, project management and data management skills; the ability to work well under tight time constraints and manage multiple projects.
Ability to take initiative in a cooperative work setting.
Experience in an office or administrative setting.
Experience in event planning.
Comfortable with public speaking/presentations.
Proficiency in Google Suite and MS Office.
Familiarity with the University of Alberta campus and administrative units.
An understanding of and prior involvement in global education is an asset.
Supervisory experience is an asset.
The successful candidate will work:
part-time (up to 15-hrs/week) from mid-November to December 24
full-time (35-hrs/week) from January 2 to February 15
part-time (up to 15-hrs/week) from February 16 to March 31
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain their work hours during Fall and Winter Reading Weeks and during the term transition from December to January. They will not be expected to work on statutory holidays and during Winter closure, from Dec 25, 2019 to Jan 1, 2020.
