The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time, term faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Without Review).
The UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology has training programs at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and pursues research to make innovative advancements in knowledge and practice to improve health. The Department consists of more than 300 physicians and scientists as well as over 50 administrative, research, and technical staff. Sub-specialty training programs are offered in gynaecologic oncology, maternal fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility as well as advanced training programs in endometriosis, pelvic pain and advanced laparoscopic surgery, family planning, vulvovaginal health and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. For the last decade, the department has had a strong program in global women's health. Through this research program, the department has established a research consortium across many jurisdictions globally that have successfully concluded a number of large-scale longitudinal clinical studies in low resource settings. This established consortium offers a valuable framework for future studies related to women's health.
The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine of the University of British Columbia includes 20 perinatologists providing consultative care at 4 sites - BC Women's Hospital, Surrey Memorial Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital and Victoria General Hospital. Members of the Division work in close collaboration with specialists in other disciplines including Medical Genetics, Obstetrical Medicine, Neonatology, Pediatric Surgery, Reproductive Mental Health and many others. Care is provided in a collaborative model with the patient's primary care provider.
Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, through the Division Head of Maternal Fetal Medicine, the successful candidate will be an academic scientist and have experience in large global multi-site studies. Experience with related research portfolios in placental biology, nutrition, perinatal epidemiology, and child health Is preferred. The incumbent will be expected to develop and implement a robust research program within global women's health, with specific focus on the social determinants of health; including environmental and geographic factors such as air quality, health geography, water, sanitation & hygiene, as well as access and barriers to care at the systems level.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent credentials. The successful incumbent will also have a proven track record of research in women's global health. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching and will be expected to participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate teaching activities of the unit. The incumbent will also show demonstrated ability in scholarly activity, and work with an extramurally funded research program. They will be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community.
