Job Description

We are immediately seeking skilled Ecologists to join Savanta s growing team of natural scientists. Our consultants are expected to have a command of aspects of the ecological sciences and environmental approvals processes. Our senior team members coordinate and manage projects and liaise with regulatory agencies. Given our unique consulting model, this role demands an ability to work both independently and collaboratively using available remote work technologies. The successful candidates will participate in fieldwork, attend meetings and will periodically attend our central Collaborative Workspace in Milton. We are looking for positive and energetic team players, who will fit well into our technically skilled and forward thinking group. Primary Responsibilities:
Manage consulting projects including budget and timeline tracking
Oversee background data collection and review including communications with agencies and stakeholders to determine species at risk (SAR) and other environmental considerations
Lead and/or support surveys with a focus on amphibians, reptiles, mammals (bats) and birds, including targeted SAR surveys
Lead and/or support vegetation and wetland surveys, including Ecological Land Classification (ELC) mapping, Ontario Wetland Evaluation System surveys, species taxonomy, and rare plant identification
Work with other technical staff and other project managers to develop natural heritage assessments, inventories and impact assessments, as well as to prepare technical correspondence, SAR Permit applications and project reports
Qualifications

Degree(s) in biology, ecology, environmental science or related discipline, or equivalent experience
10+ years environmental consulting experience
Experience managing projects and clients
Ability to interpret and critically assess information in terms of relevant legislation, policies and guidelines
Strong written and verbal communication, organization and time management skills
Field survey experience
Proficient with Microsoft Office, use of field equipment and associated data management software, GPS, digital data collection and filing systems
Valid driver s license is required
