The Camp Supervisor is responsible for supervising all aspects of the Winnipeg Humane Society
Kid Camps. This position will oversee the camp counsellors, budgeting, leading and training staff,
coordinating camp registrations, preparing activities and arranging special guests. The position
goal is to provide an engaging, interactive and educational experience with animals for all camp
participants.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Integrate “teachable moments” into the camp program format
2. Ensure all aspects of day camp are prepared daily
3. Report questions/concerns promptly to the Assistant Manager, Education
4. Model/Present appropriate strategies to volunteers and counsellors
5. Coordinate and mentor camp counsellors
6. Create a stimulating, active and educational camp program; offer program enhancements

for consideration
7. Perform duties of the camp counsellor when required
8. Bring energy and enthusiasm to every day to ensure participants have an unforgettable

experience
9. Maintain positive morale that will be adopted by all our staff, volunteers,

parents/guardians and the children attending the camp
10. Always maintain safety of campers and visiting pets
11. Other duties as reasonably assigned

outside of the shelter environment.

Accountability:
Directly accountable to the Assistant Manager, Education.

Authority:
Authority to perform all assigned duties and responsibilities within established policies and
procedures.

Interpersonal Relationships:
Regular, daily involvement with other WHS departments, volunteers, parents/guardians and
customers of the WHS.

Abilities, Skills & Knowledge:
1. Ability to work effectively with staff from other departments
2. Initiative, confidence to suggest improvements to current systems

4. Self-motivating, enthusiastic individual; confident with responsibility
5. Ability to communicate professionally articulately, assertively and clearly
6. Ability to work independently or as a team
7. Ability to work under minimal supervision
8. Ability to work on weekends, evenings, and some holidays is required
9. Excellent communication skills both orally and written is necessary

Education, Training & Experience:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent required
2. Previous experience with motivating and working with children ages 6-13 preferred
3. Previous experience supervising staff, volunteers and children
4. Experience with animal welfare organizations is preferred
5. Experience creating, delivering and adapting children’s programs preferred
