The Organization: BC Transit

BC Transit is British Columbia's provincial transit authority and is responsible for coordinating the delivery of public transportation throughout the province (outside of the Metro Vancouver region serviced by Translink). Providing services to over 130 communities in collaboration with local government partners, including the Victoria Regional Transit Commission and regional hospital districts, BC Transit owns and operates a fleet of more than 1,000 fully-accessible buses and transports 54.1 million passengers annually. BC Transit continually monitors the market for ways improve fuel efficiency and/or reduce emissions on older buses and operates 88 transit systems including conventional, community, custom and paratransit.

The Opportunity: Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key leader who provides advice and support to the CEO, drives strategies, and provides leadership by committing to action the business goals of BC Transit. In conjunction with the other members of the Senior Leadership Team, the CFO is charged with focusing on financial sustainability, supporting and shaping livable communities, changing the perception of transit, strengthening people and partnerships, and delivering the best value to the public. The CFO provides leadership in the Finance Division and across the organization, applying strategic thinking and results orientation to ensure the business objectives are achieved

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A university degree in a related discipline and a recognized accounting designation, preferably a CA;
  • Ten+ years of senior financial management experience in a complex, regionally diverse organization, preferably in a public sector setting; experience with financial systems transformation is an asset;
  • Proven executive leadership, team building and mentorship skills;
  • In-depth knowledge of business planning and accountability processes, and performance management;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, and collaborate strategically, with a wide variety of stakeholders and balance the needs and interests of these diverse groups;
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities, including the ability to manage a number of complex issues while still delivering results; and
