The Cyber Security Analyst role acts as resident IT security advisor to assist peers, business stakeholders and executives on risks for programs and initiatives with technology components. Actively promotes integration of security into most aspects of IT and the business. Ensures that IT Cyber security operations are following regulatory and industry practices; and that online and other threats and risks to systems are mitigated
Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day:
Security & Incident Response: Reviews and assigned emails and tickets received and ensures that they are forwarded to appropriate IT specialist. Included in on-call rotation and assists team with after house incident resolution. Assists and completes forensic system investigations
Cyber Security Systems: Assists with the maintenance and operation of First Cyber Security production systems and tests labs. Works with IT Operations on the alignment and implementation of security recommendations. Provides operational support and incident management responses as required for assigned IS systems, including any system updates or implementation
Risk Management: Proactively monitors First West’s networks for security breaches and/or incidents and investigates any violations; prepares report that documents security incidents and outlines damage caused. Conducts penetration testing, both internally and externally to look for vulnerabilities in FW systems, provides report and recommendations to management on any potential weaknesses in system security
Team Support: Participates in any change management processes related to IS Systems and operations. Works with IT Operations on the alignment and implementation of IS recommendations. Recommends security enhancements to management or senior IT team members. Participates in assigned IT projects as the security operations subject matter expert
Security Strategy: Contributes to development of operational and tactical plans for the security function, ensuring alignment to established strategies and over-arching plans. Includes creating and maintaining enterprise security architecture design and formulating security roadmaps
Situational Awareness: Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the information security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes and the development of new attacks and threat vectors
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
College, Trade or Tech School Diploma (2 years) in a related discipline required
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Other Certifications, Designations or Licenses, CISSP, GIAC, Security+, CCNA SecOPs preferred
5 years information technology related work experience, ideally with 3 or more years spent working in a security function
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Visio is required
Experience with deploying and securing Cloud deployments including PAAS, IAAS and SAAS
Experience with Incident handling and forensics
Working understanding of the following control and program frameworks, OWASP Top 10, Critical Security Control, COBIT 5, ISO 27000, and OSFI
Working technical knowledge of log management platforms including Syslog and at least one enterprise class SIEM
Strong understanding of IP, TCP/IP, and other common network protocols
Familiarity with securing Microsoft Cloud computing platforms
Experience with two or more of the following scripting languages: Python, or PowerShell
Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of people
Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team
Demonstrated time management, organizational and prioritization skills
