Reporting to Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager, the position is responsible for the regional food safety and quality assurance program, ensuring that employee’s practices and products meet all relevant regulatory requirements and that they support the attainment of primary business objectives.
This position is queried to be based in Calgary.
Assist developing, modifying, implementing and execution of food safety policies, procedures and programs at retail stores, central kitchen and distribution centers. Ensure that these are current, in place and in line with corporate standard and objectives.
Responsible for the delivery of food safety certification and food safety onsite training to the employees as appropriate.
Monitor and guide operation on third party food safety audits and corporate internal audits. Take corrective actions to ensure all practices are incompliance with regulation and company standard.
Follow up government inspections (i.e. PHI, CFIA, etc.), food safety audits. Review and summarize inspection and audit results, propose corrective action plans and ensure that these plans are implemented in accordance with the requirements of the Food Safety Program and business development.
Examine audit results over time to determine trending and common issues across the business and develop responses to the issues.
Liaise with government inspector as appropriate to address any concerns. Provide input into the regulatory process, make regulators aware of the impact of decisions on business and consumers, and ensure that company perspectives are clearly presented.
Stay current on all legislation surrounding food safety issues in Canada, follow up on the developments that could or will affect food safety and quality. Assist preparing the recommendation on measures that address such developments.
Responsible for the follow up on customer complaint, product withdrawal and recall. Communicate and coordinate between CFIA, local regulatory inspector and T&T operations on the concerns and corrective actions.
Responsible for the regulatory compliance on the label review, vendor and product information review and operational practice.
Responsible for the efficiency of pest control and sanitation programs in both retail, central kitchen and distribution chain.
Conduct regular visit for food safety and quality assurance duties in the store, central kitchen and warehouse. Complete projects in a timely and professional manner.
Propose and contribute to practice and product continue improvement object.
Assist food safety program in central processing and merchandising when necessary.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the superior(s).
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:
Post-Secondary degree in Public Health Inspection, Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or other related disciplines
Sound knowledge of both Canadian and International regulatory or requirements for the food product and labeling
HACCP in food industry, and / or retail working experience is required
Possess 2 or more years work experience in food safety, quality assurance
Strong analytical skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to make constructive recommendations diplomatically
Demonstrate initiative and willingness to learn and show commitment to raise the bar regarding company QA standards and exceptions and embrace a continuous improvement philosophy
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced, temperature controlled cool environment
Flexible to work on irregular working schedule including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays when needed
Capability and availability to drive and traveling regularly
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese. French and /or other Asia language is beneficial
Possess intermediate to advance skills in Microsoft office applications
