The Advisor Experience team provides communications support to business units within Manulife’s Canadian Market. The team is responsible for communicating to Canadian advisors, specifically those who conduct business with Manulife Insurance, Manulife Investments and Manulife Securities.
A key role within the Advisor Experience Communications team, the Communications Manager has a clear understanding of the complexities and interdependencies of financial advisors and their business, along with an appreciation for working in a complex matrix environment. This role supports the development, positioning, timing and execution of strategic communication initiatives for advisors, and also provides consultation to various departments within Canadian Segment regarding the most effective communications mediums applicable to all our constituents, including key stakeholders, advisors and employees.
The Manager of Advisor Communications is accountable for:
Leading a team that develops strategic communications plans for key business initiatives including program development, new business support, compliance, risk and reputation management
Planning, organizing and assigning incoming work and alignment of resources
Collaborating with business departments and senior management on key strategic projects and initiatives that will enable key business partners to reach specific goals
Developing and executing leading-edge communications across multiple mediums (digital and print) that are engaging, informative and relevant to the audience
Identifying and resolving issues, managing risks and ensuring work is completed on time and budget
Writing and/or developing and/or editing and/or approving communications materials and overseeing distribution; ensuring a high level of quality in all documents and processes
Contributing to metrics reporting and establishing key performance indicators
Assisting the AVP, Advisor Experience with high profile or sensitive communication deliverables
As Manager, You will:
1. Act as the liaison with internal business units, as well as business partners within Canadian Market to ensure all communications are aligned with Manulife’s overall strategic priorities.
Work closely with internal business partners to determine content, timing and key messages for regular advisor updates.
Develop relationships within Canadian Segment to ensure we work in a collaborative fashion to reach mutual goals and objectives.
2. Act as an advocate for advisors and continually seek new and improved ways of communicating to them while “breaking through the clutter” and making it easy to obtain and understand the information they need to do business with Manulife.
3. Work closely with the AVP, Advisor Experience to:
Deliver on Advisory Experience strategy to move the dial on key communication channels by ensuring all messages are clear and resonate with the audience.
Lead projects within multiple business units within Canadian Market.
4. The Manager owns quality assurance and validates target audiences for appropriate communication distribution.
As the ideal candidate, you possess:
Degree or Diploma in Journalism, Public Relations or Communications
7-10 years’ experience in writing, developing and implementing communications plans for various audiences
Financial Services Industry experience is preferred
Thorough knowledge of Canadian Press Style
Experience in coaching and mentoring peers
Exceptional writing and editing skills, along with attention to detail and the ability to provide constructive criticism
Extremely strong consulting, negotiation and influencing skills
Skilled in the use of new technologies for communications purposes, mass email tools (i.e. Marketing Cloud), mobile apps, web writing, social media, webcasts, podcasts, etc.
Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to drive multiple initiatives, prioritize and meet tight deadlines
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong communications and social skills with the ability to build relationships and maintain professionalism; experience interacting with senior management
Creative thinker and strong problem solver
Advanced level of proficiency in Office 365, SharePoint and Skype
Shown ability to develop communication solutions to meet business needs
Knowledge of Manulife channels, products and technologies an asset
Completion of Canadian Securities Institute courses a definite asset
