The lake city is a great base for hiking, camping, four-wheeling, waterskiing, swimming, golfing and sport fishing as well. Our indoor recreation facilities are first rate, with the Cariboo Memorial Recreational Complex offering a brand new leisure pool with waterslide, new lap pool, steam room, sauna, massive swirl pool along with two arena ice sheets, and a brand new fitness centre.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The incumbent shall be responsible for the development, delivery, administration and promotion of adult recreation programs, fitness classes and special events at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex. In addition, run programs and events at community facilities to meet the divergent needs of Williams Lake and District.

SUPERVISION:
Responsible to the Manager of Recreation Services. The incumbent shall be responsible for contracted adult recreation program & league instructors, fitness staff, volunteers and special projects staff.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and administers recreation, education and cultural programs and special events. Ensures programs and special events adhere to standards, accurate records are kept, reports and assessment are complete and facilities are booked
Serves as a liaison to the general public in response to inquires, provides technical assistance and direction to instructors, coaches, referees and others in conducting adult programs and events; explains policies and procedures to participants, staff, and volunteers
Collaborates with the Manager of Recreation Services to prepare and administer the Recreation Services program and administration budgets, as well as the advertising and fitness program components of the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex budget
Plans and organizes assigned adult programs and activities; develops format and structure of programs; orders supplies, trophies, awards, equipment, and material; publicizes programs and events
Trains and supervises Fitness Instructors, Program Instructors and contract or special project staff and provides direction to these staff members
Oversees registration for scheduled adult events and programs; assists in registering participants; reviews registration materials and rosters for completeness
Maintains accurate records and submits reports on programs and events. Evaluates events on a continual basis, making adjustments and modifications as required
Researches and monitors trends, community demographics, participation levels, customer requests and customer satisfaction results to offer recommendations for program development
Coordinates the recruitment and selection of instructors, coaches, umpires, referees, and others to staff programs and leagues
Collaborates with the Event and Marketing Coordinator and Manager of Recreation Services to prepare an annual marketing strategy for the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex. This will include brochures, radio contracts, website maintenance and publicity for all programs and special events. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with local media contacts
Compiles grant applications and explores additional funding sources
Establishes and maintains professional liaisons with recreation practitioners throughout the Province
Volunteers to assist the Manager of Recreation Services with special events
Maintains a current list of contacts for recreation and cultural groups within the community for the benefit of special interest groups and the general public
Advocates health and wellness in the community
Actively participates on the Coordinator team for the overall management of the Complex
Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation & Leisure or a related field
Current CPR C
Minimum three (3) years progressive supervisor experience in a municipal or recreational setting
Must possess a valid B.C. Driver's Licence.
Fitness Instructor Certification (an asset)
Proficient with computers, including word, excel, publisher, and understand the PerfectMind Program Management Program (or equivalent).
Shall have the ability to deal courteously, tactfully and diplomatically with people of all ages.
Shall be knowledgeable in all aspects of program brochures, advertisements and booking of facilities for programming.
Shall be motivated, able to work within deadlines and with minimal supervision.
Shall have the desire and initiative to undertake additional training.
Shall have the ability to work with others as a team.
Shall possess strong leadership, communication and administration skills.
