Perform exploratory research focused on new product design and development. Propose creative technical options/solutions to address unmet market needs, customer inquiries and specific product requests. Initiate, develop, and implement technical plans to support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and processes in consultation with the other members of the Phosphorus Specialties (PS) team. Support execution of the innovation strategy and delivery of business objectives.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
Perform all work safely and promote a behavior-based safety culture
Design, develop and evaluate technical options to support new opportunities and ongoing research projects
Complete exploratory research focused on new product design and development
Submit, assess and qualify new ideas
Act as a technical leader and resource across NPI projects and teams
Mentor and contribute to the professional growth of the PS R&I team
Up to 15% of travel required

Safety Responsibilities:
Understand and follow Solvay safety policies and procedures for the site, demonstrating a commitment to safety
Understand and adhere to the R&I Safety Handbook and R&I Emergency Preparedness Plan
Participate in Safety and Housekeeping Audits
Attend all monthly safety and quarterly breakfast meetings
Proactively communicate and address safety concerns
Support safety initiatives from all levels of the organization (i.e. function, site, GBU, Group, etc.)
Education and Experience
PhD in Chemistry
5+ years experience in organophosphorus chemistry and relevant applications preferred.

Possess and demonstrate technical expertise/proficiency in the field of organophosphorus chemistry
Knowledgeable/experienced in safe handling of air-sensitive and reactive materials
Knowledgeable/experienced in relevant analytical techniques including instrument use and interpretation of data
Demonstrated ability to solve technical challenges with creative and/or novel approaches
Experience with molecular modeling, virtual experiments, big data analysis/machine learning is an asset
The ideal candidate will be able to lead, engage, motivate and work effectively with a diverse team

Excellent communication skills are a must
