The Full Circle Mentoring program provides meaningful group mentoring experiences to youth in Wood Buffalo. Participants will have the opportunity to explore and build an understanding of Indigenous culture while creating positive peer and mentoring relationships in an after school programming setting. It is important to note that this program is not only for youth who come from an Indigenous background – it is inclusive to any child that would benefit from a program of this nature.

The program has been active in our region since 2009, and has grown tremendously since then. It runs throughout the Fort McMurray Public, Fort McMurray Catholic and Northlands School District. This is currently the largest Indigenous-mentoring program in Canada, accredited by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. Positions are available in several schools in the Wood Buffalo region.

Compensation: $90.00 a week for each program facilitated (1.5 hours)

About This Program:

  • Full Circle Mentoring runs after school for 1.5 hours, 1 day per week for the school year.
  • Each program has a maximum of 10 participants, ages 8-12yrs.
  • Full Circle Mentoring is FREE to all participants.
  • Full Circle is a first and foremost a Mentoring program. As such, we always give priority to the development of quality relationships over completion of activities.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo provides Program Facilitators with all program materials & lesson plans.

What You’ll Bring to This Role

  • A demonstrated passion for mentoring children and youth.
  • Knowledge of local/rural communities and available community resources.
  • Strong leadership and organizations skills.

What You’ll Need for This Job:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children ages 8-12.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience facilitating group activities and executing lesson plans for children and/or youth.
  • Consistent after-school availability – most programs start around 3:00pm.
  • Clear Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Check (90 days current).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
