What will you do at Ciena?
The Senior Manager of IT Applications will provide onsite leadership and direction to the Oracle / Oracle Applications Database Administrators team. They will be responsible for implementing an Agile Service Delivery team for the DBA team which supports the Ciena Oracle database environment consisting of both Oracle E Business Suite (EBS) and non-EBS databases, located in OCI.
The position will report directly to the Director of IT Applications - Oracle.
Ensure overall management, tracking, and reporting of all database related activities for cross-functional, project-oriented work efforts, supporting the delivery of projects and transformation programs on time, within budget, to high quality standards in alignment to the strategic objectives
Ensure that the support for all Oracle and non-Oracle applications handled by the DBA team is aligned so as to keep all applications running with minimum disruption to BAU and plan for improvements in service delivery over time
Manage internal and external teams in order to deliver the projects and support as above. This would include hiring, performance reviews and overall talent management for the internal team
Optimize the way Ciena leverages IaaS in OCI and explore PaaS for SaaS
Improve proactive monitoring of databases, applications, concurrent processes, license deployment and usage, security compliance
Optimize OCI consumption and utilization
Look at better ways of doing what we do with respect to solutioning our applications/ databases/ networks, building, upgrading, patching cloning and supporting databases
Engage with Oracle and other vendors closely to build sound relationships which Ciena can leverage
Build team morale and engagement and plan for upskilling/cross-skilling the team so team members can be more updated on contemporary skills and also build back up resources within the team
Act as a strategic driver for organizational excellence, who seeks to enhance the practices of execution management, organizational governance, and strategic change leadership
Build relationships with managers and staff across the organization to provide effective support and timely facilitation/management of DBA needs of all projects
Contribute to budget input and technology licensing
Contribute in the planning process for budgeting for database related requirements of business projects. Monitor the budgets, in coordination with respective managers to ensure financial objectives are met as per the budget
Manage, hire and develop a team of high performing team members
Establish priorities and assess performance against priorities for individuals and team
Influence organization design to optimize value; onshore/offshore, consultants/ in-house
Assist in vendor evaluation when needed
Manage contractors and consultants as needed in support of projects and day to day operations

Extensive Oracle Applications database management experience, including 5+ years of supervisory experience in managing at least 30-member Oracle Development / DBA teams
Good experience of managing DBA teams and entire gamut of DBA activities including Oracle installation, patching, upgrade, migration, security tools etc.
Extensive experience of Oracle EBS, SaaS, Paas and IaaS
Familiar with ITIL concepts
Good project management skills
Ability to establish effective working relationships all IT functions: infrastructure, service owner, service delivery, PMO, Security, Executive Leadership, etc.
Experience in Agile development preferred
