About the Role:
As a GVI Volunteer Coordinator in Gordon's Bay you will be living on base in a communal setting, running a variety of community-based programs, such as women’s empowerment, sports, teaching and childcare and develop your volunteer management skills. You will be working in a rich cultural environment and be part of making a long-term sustainable impact within communities in South Africa.

The role entails assisting with daily operations of the projects, base and volunteer management. As a coordinator you will be responsible for overseeing the volunteers, making sure they are receiving the highest standard of training and enjoying the experience of project life. This role is ideally suited to someone who is passionate about education and community empowerment, and looking to grow their skill set and experience in exchange for all food and accommodation.

Responsibilities

What does the life of a Community Volunteer Coordinator look like?

Day to day running of our community projects
Supporting the base managers in making sure programs are run to a high standard
Maintaining good relationships with project partners and volunteers
Assisting and actively contributing to project development
Completing necessary administration tasks to help ensure the smooth running of the projects and base, including gathering data to help monitor project impact and progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals
Delivering presentations and training to volunteers and members of the community
Providing daily support to volunteers, by being an enthusiastic role model and providing guidance and mentorship during their stay
Coordinating volunteer activities such as social nights or cultural reflection activities
Attending weekly staff meetings as an integral member of the team
Carrying out additional duties at the request of the base managers
Supporting base management by ensuring that base duties are carried out, hygiene standards are maintained, GVI’s high health and safety standards are met
Being flexible and open to working on a variety of projects and working evenings and weekends where necessary
