About the role: This Enhanced Supportive Housing Program is a 34-bed program for men who were long term shelter users. The program provides semi-independent accommodation and support to men, ages 18 and up. The John Howard Society of Ottawa will manage the site with support from Ottawa Inner City Health, The Royal Ottawa Health Group and Acquired Brain Injury care stream of the Ottawa Hospital. By applying Housing First Principles, Rita Thompson Enhanced Supportive Housing provides male adults, regardless of their complexities and challenges, an opportunity to access safe accommodations and utilize intensive on-site supports to assist with their life goals. This program strives to contribute to a reduction in the number of individuals using homeless shelters or living on the street.
Qualifications:
Education

University Degree/College Diploma in Social Services
Preferred Experience:
-
Minimum two (2) years of experience working with the homeless population in case management role
-
Experience in housing/residential setting
-
Experience working in a Harm Reduction environment
-
Experiences working as part of an interdisciplinary team

Have a recent Criminal Record Check (within the last 6 months)

Have demonstrated the ability to work well being a part of an interdisciplinary team

Have an interest in working within a structured clinical model

have strong report-building skills to support working with clients who have experienced trauma

Possess a strong commitment to working in a challenging but rewarding program

Are willing to work evenings occasionally

Are willing to be on-call on a rotational basis

Have excellent people skills to facilitate relationships with clients, colleagues, supervisors, programs partners and community members

Have a genuine interest in working with adults in a caring and empathic manner

Have access to a reliable vehicle for working with clients in the community, which is considered an asset

Have bilingualism (French/English), which is considered an asset
Knowledge and Skills….

Demonstrate the use of Motivational Interview (MI) techniques
-
Experience working with a client-focused, case management approach to quicken housing stability
-
Experience working with clients that struggle with behavioural issues
-
Be familiar with the Residential Tenancies Act and any other relevant legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act)

Be competent in using needs assessment instructions (e.g., SPDAT)

Basic understanding of the application of research for program design

Are competent in using various data collection and case management software

Experience working with people with substance abuse and mental health disorders

Experience working with people with acquired brain injury
