What are the goals of the team and how can you contribute to its success?

As part of Franklin Bissett Investment Management, the Research Associate would be part of the equity research team, conducting research and analysis on assigned securities/sectors. To be successful in the role, the incumbent brings a curiosity, understanding and a keen interest in equity markets and individual equities, experience with financial statement analysis, and comfort level with writing and presenting on investment conclusions.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of the Research Associate?

Independently perform rigorous fundamental research on assigned securities/sectors.
Review, interpret and analyze the business models and financial statements of individual issuers under coverage
Construct/maintain financial models on prospective/existing investments including detailed valuation work.
Translate fundamental research into successful investment ideas.
Participate in the decision-making process with respect to portfolio management by formulating investment recommendations.
Prepare updates and ongoing analysis of investments to be presented to portfolio managers.
Prepare initiating reports on prospective investments through analysis and documentation of research findings.
Participate in investment research meetings.
Responsible for making both written and verbal presentations of investment conclusions.
Develop strong relationships with a variety of market/industry participants.
Assist the Portfolio Managers and Traders as required.

What ideal qualifications would help someone to be successful?

Undergraduate/graduate degree in business with strong academic achievement.
Progression towards CFA designation.
3 to 5 years of investment work experience preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong financial and accounting background and experience with financial statement analysis.
Strong computer skills including experience with constructing financial models.
Understanding of Franklin Bissett Investment Management’s Growth at a Reasonable Price (GARP) equity investment style and demonstrated personal alignment with this style.
Curiosity, understanding and a keen interest in equity markets and individual equities.
